Unless they make some good signings I do think City are unlikely to improve on last season and realistically they are the only team in a position to finish ahead of Liverpool this season..
The Tiago signing is significant for Liverpool, much less so the Jota signings, as Origi did ok when he played

Aguero out for 2 months according to pep...

Werner is better?
You comparing apples and Pears. Werner is an out and out No9 and Jota is a wide player come striker.
Looking at the way jota moves I'd say he's more skillful but putting the ball in the net then Werner scores more.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He is not an out an out no 9...feck me you are clueless about Werner if you think that...have you actually ever watched him play?

So.... why exactly didn't you buy Werner then?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Because AFCON got cancelled so we don't need him as much now plus they wanted the money up front.
Think he'll be class for you though
.
I reckon Jota is going to be a great signing for us btw.
He absolutely loves football and works his ass off. He's a great fit.

Oh yeah, good point. Release clause meant the fee was one payment. That's probably the reason

I think Klopp has signed him as part of his succession strategy for about two years from now.
Yeah it can't hurt but I think he'll get plenty of minutes this season too.
Our bench likely to be from:
Thiago
Jota
Matip
Adrian
Minamino
Keita
Milner
Curtis
Got a very strong bench now. Squad is looking just about complete and ready to challenge on all fronts. The only thing I would like now is one more centre back, but that's not a massive issue as Fabinho can drop back there if necessary. Bring it on

Yeah fab can drop in and Milner is free in mf due to Kostas signing.
Our SECOND string could easily be:
..................Adrian.......
Nico..Fabinho..Matip..Kostas
.............Curtis...Milner.....
.....................Keita......
AOC.........Minamino......Jota
City will 100% spend and if they purchase some half decent defenders, maybe a striker, they will certainly be a force.
Now aguero is out and other teams have strengthened it's inevitable. Ake was good business and tbh their only weakness is defence.
Pep can't keep buying dud defenders forever and Laporte and Ake will be solid. I think Ake won't even start as they will sign another big fee CB so the season won't be cake walk for any side imo

It's cool. Everyone OP has their limit and he kinda enjoys being toxic.
Most of the fans of all clubs get on and have good banter. Some just enjoy the toxic side that's unfortunately driven too many away from JA

Seems a bit silly to me if the reason was financial when you're throwing 45mil at Jota. He's a good player (backup option) but Werner is a level above. Must've been about gametime.
Oh well, I ain't complaining
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Jota and werner are different players. Chelsea needed an out and out striker but Liverpool do not play with one.
Werner may be a better striker than Jota but Werner isn't better than any of Liverpool front 3. He also isn't similar to any of them really. Jota seems a strange one to me but I think he's better placed to cover 3-4 dif positions.
Werner isnt as effective when he isn't playing as a striker. I totally get why Klopp rated him but I don't see how he would fit into the way Liverpool play.
--------------------------------------------------------------
No he would've suited Liverpool. He's an out & out striker of sorts but one who specifically likes exploring the left side channel, and because Liverpool play Mane/Salah so narrow that's where he'd of lived playing LW. Would've been a left side version of Salah basically.
Jota will be happier playing as a backup I'm sure, but Werner is better, simple facts. It must've been a gametime thing which is fair enough, Mane would've continued being first choice. Their loss is Chelsea's gain
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Obviously nobody knows for sure but what I’ve heard was there were 3 basis problems - firstly the money and upfront payment RBL wanted. Secondly the wages would have been the equal of Salah as Liverpool’s highest earner (potential for create obvious problems). Thirdly Werner was conscious of his German team place and wanted guaranteed playing time.
I think Werner is a great player and a superb signing for you but tbh signing for Chelsea was probably the smarter move for him right now.
I’ll be completely honest and say I’m not particularly excited by Jota, not in the same way I am about Thiago. I’m more intrigued as to how he’ll fit in and what he can do. We needed depth for the wide forwards though, so in terms of the position were strengthening then I’m happy.
