Celtic have a huge global fanbase,of that there is no doubt. How to make money from that is the big PLC question.Entry into the EPL would help,we would be a good investment with a worldwide brand.

Regardless of what some of our fans would like people to believe, we are both Scottish clubs. We belong in this country.
End of.

The whole EPL will come crashing down one day, which is a shame as it's so entertaining. But it's all on borrowed money. When/if the billionaires get bored, the whole football scene down there will be running at billions of pounds of loss every year.
That won't be sustainable.

It would break my heart to see Celtic playing in the EPL. I couldnt give a fook where Rangers play. Third division by the looks of it haha. Only kidding It would only happen if both teams agreed to go and with the big bucks on offer theyd certainly take it. I cant stand sell outs so Id support St Mirren since Im from paisley.

I hope we never move to the EPL. True the money is there, and for the owners of a club it is a dream. However what about the fan? Ticket prices will double, player wages will treble and the quality may not in many cases be much better.

For example do I want to pay 50 quid to watch Rangers v Wigan, Blackburn, Sunderland, Norwich, WBA, Fulham, Swansea etc? No I do not. Yes for the big games against Man U, Chelsea etc it would be fantastic but id argue that for the amount of big games we would play in the EPL we currently play as many if we are in the CL. Last year we played Man U twice anyway for example.

Apart from this it would take us into a world where the game has been lost to the common man. Take Tevez last night, is this a world we want to be involved in? Guys on 200k a week refusing to play. Guys like Edu, Broadfoot etc may be limited but at least they are honest pros. This honesty is why Rangers have won 3 titles and various cups, we are not a Man U but we have a group of players who give everything for the club they are at. Guys like Davis, McGregor and Whittaker have turned down more lucrative deals to stay and play at a club where they enjoy it. Id rather pay money to support that than pay double to watch guys like Tevez take the mickey.

In addition 5 years ago id have said that the old firm would be top teams if we went down there. However now with all these billionaire owners I dont think stature of club matters anymore. Look at Man City. Not that long ago they were in League 1, a struggling Premiership team when they were there. Taken over by a rich sheikh and now expected to win the CL. So Rangers and Celtic could sink into mid table mediocrity down there quite easily which would just be boring. I think if we were down there 5 years without making Europe we would find the grass isnt always greener and possibly longing for the security of a 2 team title race.

I think you are right – many people think that because Rangers and Celtic are big clubs (in terms of history and fan-base) they will do well. Newcastle is a great example though – they have a massive fan-base but it didn’t stop them being relegated a few years ago…

The grass is always greener so many people think the money from the EPL would mean the Old Firm could compete when trying to sign big names – but it wouldn’t happen. For starters there would be no European football to lure players in, and no titles or cup finals to be battling over.

All good and valid points. Not that we would ever be allowed into the EPL, but if we were, it wouldn't be for me.

Of course the money would be great, but doubt it would bring success.

Ten years ago Rangers and Celtic might of had a chance of competing even within a few years now it would take another ten years to break the top four.

I really think that some sort of Two tier Euro super league is the future and if Rangers and Celtic dont rid themselves of baggage they have and dont start to improve their Euro performances. They would struggle to get invited even to the 2nd tier!

i agree with no.7 i would rather be a large fish in a little pond than be a mid table struggling team like villa, everton or newcastle, all huge clubs like ourselves and celtic!

Interesting debate

I've got fed up of the "Big Fish in little pond" league up here and I would prefer to move to England, and have more competitive games in a more competitive league with greater broadcasting incomes (and better players) which would mean we wouldn't have to suffer the likes of Dan and Glenda every week.

I know the flip side is we would be unlikely to win anything and not have European football for possibly a long period. For me, it would be a long term project of continual improvement (higher league positions every year) with the aim of eventually challenging the top clubs. Who wouldn't be excited about seeing players of the quality of say Luka Modric in the Hoops eventually. Know it's never going to happen tho' so it will remain a pipe dream.

ps, Newcastle are only a big team in Newcastle.

Celtic and probably Rangers aswell, will have 5/10 times the amount of fans that they have over the whole of the UK. Never mind worldwide.

I wouldn't draw comparisons betwenn the old firm and Newcastle.

If we moved down there it would open us up to the possibility of being bought by some arab or Yank with a few billion to spare. Going by current examples I wouldn't welcome that!

Valid point about becoming a rich person's playtoy. Still prefer to move tho'. Game is stagnating/dead up here and nothing is going to change.

Going to England in my view opens up a world of opportunities which we're never going to get here. At the very least, we would have the opportunity to say to the rich Sheikh "**** off"

Yes, I wouldn't mind seeing how we do down there. Just as long as we avoid being floated on the stockmarket and becoming vulnerable to Sheikhs and mad yanks.

Maybe we should look at the constant numbskulls solicitors who keep getting the top jobs up here and have hee haw experience about marketing.

We should get that guy who managed to revive darts in charge.

Darts was on a very slippery slope, until this man came along(cant remember his) but he revoutionised the game and now as big money pumping into through sponsors and has major tournaments all over the world!

Listened to him on a BBc five live interview, and he quite clearly said, give the audience what it wants.
