Scoring goals is great, not only for morale, but GD. But I note that you're pre judging our new players after 2 games and some who haven't started a match yet. We also finished 7th in both of our seasons back in the top flight. 8th highest scorers and only 4 sides bettered our goals against (including 5 in one match)
So who knows what will happen, but I'm sure Podence will prove to be better over the course of the whole season than Jota was.
I tend to agree with Boston, in that we got a good deal from a player who I believe was way of his game in the latter part of the season.
I get where DJ is coming from to a degree. Jota may not have been prolific but I do think he is more of a goal scorer than Podence or Neto over a season generally but as touched on earlier, Jota was a poor decision maker in the final third and that part of his game will be easily replaced.
Did we score 51 goals last season in the league? Can't see us being far from that again this term.
With more quality in our squad now, I feel Jota and his scoring record of 7 Premier League goals and 1 assists, will be surpassed by both Neto and Podence. As I've already pointed out, Podence has doubled Jota's tally in assists.

You were correct - he wasn't there in the 2003/4 season.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Point taken.
Boly, Saiss, Coady() 6
Semedo, Jonny, Vinagre, Marcal 5
Neves, Moutinho, Dendoncker 7
Podence 6
Traore 6
Neto 6
Jimenez 15+
Bench 7
A rough guess from our current lot and it came to 52 so about the same as last year. Ideally we would get more from our wing backs and central midfield but so far history suggests that won't be the case with the guys we have. Also hopefully one of our attack other than Jimenez can reach double figures, that would be great.
Well I can't see the new boys scoring less over the season, Jota had some horrendous misses and he gave the ball away so many times. I made a point of watching him and he either lost it or gave it away most of the time. If you did not notice that then watch a few games .
However, its all irrelevant now.
Only way I can see Fabio Silva getting starts is if we go to two up front really and I think that is unlikely with Podence, Traore and Neto around. Though possible we could see Podence or Neto behind a front two.
I don’t need to watch the games again Boston, what I saw in Jota was, I guess, the same as what one of the most successful clubs in Europe and one of the best managers in Europe saw in him when they wrote a cheque for £40m
Because those clubs don't make mistakes of course. I hope Jota does well, would be great to see one of ours do it at the very top again.
Leon Clarke has joined Shrewsbury, Sam Ricketts has been after him since he got there apparently
We scored a total of 49 league goals last season
Jimenez 17
Jota 7
Doherty 4
Traore 4
Dendoncker 4
Neto3
Cutrone 2
Jonny 2
Neves 2
Saiss 2
Podence 1
Moutinho 1
We can probably expect the same from Jimenez, Traore, Dendoncker and Saiss. Neto and Podence will get around 6 between them. Neves can't get a shot on target these days and Moutinho seldom has a shot. Boly might get one odd header from a corner so we will be looking to the new guys to get 14/15/16 between them to equal last season's tally.
I find all this minute analysis of individual goals scored to be quite tedious.
It isn't an exact science. So many uncertainties, and unusual situations during a game can lead to goals. Quality of opposition; mood of opposition on a given day; mistakes, penalties, wrong decisions... so let's not navel-gaze too intensely.
I prefer to go with an overall gut-feeling.
I find people criticising my posts when I have spent a lot of time researching facts and figures quite tedious too. But whatever floats your boat.
If your tally is accurate gem then the main question mark will be how many the new guys get. Semedo, Hoever and Marcal won’t get many. And not sure how many starts Silva and Vitanha will get this season. So 14-16 from the new guys might not happen.
I think the one negative about the squad we have now is that we could end up with our second highest scorer only getting half a dozen or so. Hopefully Traore, Podence and Neto improve their records
Seems that Ruben Dias is on his way to Man City
Yeah I think we can expect more from Traore now that he won't be asked to play the wing back role for which he is so obviously unsuited. With Semedo or Hoever behind him I'm sure both his goals tally and assists will be better.

Cheers gem lad. We really should be expecting more from Traore goal wise this term of he is still on that upward trajectory but I wonder if he will hold down a starting spot all that often. Think Nuno likes Neto and he is adding hard graft to his ability and to be fair he has a good eye for goal and had how many chalked off last term. Perhaps he will be the one to hit double figures.
Never want to see Traore play wing back again!

Amen to that!
Thankfully we won't. Hoever or Semedo on Sunday
Albion evidently in talks to sign Emmanuel Adebayor who is 36
The stats show how much we rely on Raul for goals, cant see much changing with a number of others chipping in, on a separate point re Neves I may have had a few too many beers but did anyone else spot him in the City box late second half attempting a header on goal? May be a first if so , but it could have been the beer
I don't remember, Neto looks pretty similar from the TV these days.
Forgotten during all the excitement of the last week but i presume Buur will at least head out on loan before the window closes now.
Ah yes probably Neto some similarities
