Ironically, given the discussions on here the last week; when Saiss steps into central midfield, Kilman goes out to left back and we have a back 4.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Further evidence that you watch a different channel to me. Saiss is playing wing back and Kilman on the left of the back three. No difference to our usual defensive shape

Saiss is not and never will be a wing back.

Cav misses an easy pass to Mitrovic for 1-0. Passes a lovely ball to the invisible man.

Completely agree, but that’s where he is playing today

Robbed Fulham with that sale.

Don’t know how fit Podence is, but he’s been anonymous today

I should imagine that Leeds feel short changed as well

And Olympiakos. Heard that Vinagre injured himself doing stepovers at passport control.

Are Neves and Saiss having a competition to see who can give the ball away most?

Poor half. Gonna need Traore to liven things up in the last half hour at this rate. After conceding lots of goals I guess it was inevitable Fulham would play a tighter game today

posted on 4/10/20

Bizarre half that, but we have been introduced to a new system in football. Very confusing. Fluid i guess could be a word used if trying to be positive.

As usual nothing through the middle of the park and players left having to come back with the ball when getting space with nobody breaking.

Fulham don't look very threatening either at least.

Fulham so fragile defensively but as expected we have barely tested them

I know he is playing wing back, but he is drifting into central midfield when we have the ball. You dont have to disagree just because it's me.

Oscar Buur would probably do a better job as LWB than Saiss

posted on 4/10/20

Semedo very unlucky not to get his goal, great work from the keeper though. The only real chance we had in 45 minutes

posted on 4/10/20

Saiss has played perhaps half the game at WB and half of it in midfield. Not really sure what the aim is, i assume he is being coached from the sideline at times as he suddenly sticks to the line like glue

posted on 4/10/20

With Jonny and Marcal out and Ait Nouri not signed up yet it was always going to be difficult to decide who to play there. Saiss certainly not suited to that role, but not sure we have anyone else really

posted on 4/10/20

I dont think Saiss has been that bad to be honest. He is playing a different role to what we are used to for a wing back. It's like an inverted fullback, like Man City play with at times; where one fullback steps into central midfield when their team have possession.

The idea behind it is that it either creates an extra man in midfield or gives a wide forward a one on one with the opposition fullback if he is followed. It also gives a bit more freedom to allow one of the midfielders to get higher and be more creative. The problem we have is that the midfielder we are freeing up is Dendoncker, who isnt creative and keeps occupying the space Semedo wants to use.

He is not good enough to take on defenders so reverts to his old midfield role

I thought Podence has looked quite lively some nice touches, just not been able to provide a quality ball in to the box yet. Have liked what I've seen of Semedo going forward but he's not doing much defending again.

posted on 4/10/20

Agree with most. We look quite disjointed and Saiss is definitely just filling a vacancy at the moment - LWB but not really doing that job. It shows that Nuno would rather have Saiss half doing that job than trusting Kilman to do it - not sure myself.

Podence has been a bit anonymous, Neto lively, Jiminez frustrated, Semedo promising. It's always wise after the event but I think Traore on the pitch would have made a positive difference.
