Going on stats, Jon Stead was the Premiership's finest striker and Steve Kean is the most successful manager against Liverpool...
Walcott is certainly more valuable than Nasri, to the same degree Gary Cahill is more expensive than most good defenders, Andy Carroll is the eighth most expensive transfer in football history. The English player syndrome is obscene, and I'm really glad that most of our foreign youngsters qualify for homegrown status so we're not scrabbling around checking passports before talent (I'm looking at you Henderson, not so much you Jones).
Yeah, I actually agree with the OP here, it doesn't matter that Bale tore that Inter Milan defense apart, or that Nasri scored some incredible goals and technically is much more accomplished than Walcott, the fact is that over the course of a 90 minute game Walcott is much more likely than the other two to create a goal directly.
I agree that technically Walcott is not as good as the other two players, but his pace and his ability to get into goal-scoring positions is invaluable for creating goals for the team.
Man Utd do not have any central midfielders capable of unpicking defenses on a regular basis by playing through balls or driving forwards. Indeed I would aruge that their central midfield is the worst in last year's top six, but their wingers and strikers are so effective it doesn't matter, they still create far more chances per game than their opponents.
To win games you don't need the best players technically or the best players at keeping possession etc... you need the best players at scoring and the best players at defending, and Man Utd's teams are a testiment to that fact, often playing very poorly for large periods of the season but still triumphing by virtue of picking up "undeserved" wins.
When they go forward, they get players in the box and put in crosses that are hard to deal with, and like Mourinho's Chelsea they partially rely on creating dangerous situations rather than trying to pick apart a defense like Barca or Arsenal would do. It's not always pretty, but winning games is what counts, and not perceptions of how "good" everyone is.
