Lamptey is more a wing back for me. Totally different when you are in a back 4.
Lamptey has been excellent since he has been involved with Brighton. I must admit Brighton have a good recruitment set up down there, they really do know what they are doing at this level between the likes of keeping hold of Ben White, Lamptey's move and development, Maupay doing the business at this level for big money and even some of the other, younger names coming through as well. I've had them down as strugglers for a couple of seasons now but they've impressed me.
I do think they both play different roles, but Lamptey does look as if he could be one good player, the same with James.
Lamptey looks better than James.
I like James a lot. Got more to his game but not really seen enough of either of them, certainly Lamptey

Unfortunately for lamptey we had imo our most talented youth player and our most dependable players to rotate at rb. The risk of letting good players go but had he not gone we wouldn’t even know who lamptey was(other than Chelsea fans).
Wish him all the best but James has shown more than enough in the cl and other games for us to merit the choice
Lamptey is early on in his PL career, but I like everything I see and showing a lot of signs he had top potential. He has very good dribbling, acceleration, has shown he can deliver well too. Maybe most pertinent he is very assertive and aggressive in the way he plays, in a way that often these days separates otherwise mid-level full backs from great ones.
James also has a whole lot to his game, but I still want to see more of the assertiveness and proactiveness I tried to describe above. I wasn’t a fan of the thought last year but recently I do think that perhaps his seemingly more laidback style of play will be more suited to midfield.
I have to say I am quite surprised Lamptey has adapted so seamlessly to PL football. He was strong at youth level but still I would expect a more gradual adaptation to PL level football. He was for example probably no better at youth level than Dujon Sterling.
Weird how many promising young right backs are coming through in England. No wonder Southgate’s got four rb’s in his squad.
"Who do you think will have the better career down the line between Lamptey and James?"
It is difficult, as you said. The sample size is small.
Lamptey invariably plays wingback, uses his rapid pace very well to get by players and whip in crosses on the right...which has always been his forte.
Little terrier. Not as solid as Reece.
Reece has shown his nous as right-back, wingback (and midfielder)... defensively and offensively, and produces better crosses.
The competition infront of Lamptey was insurmountable at the time (behind captain Azpi & James)
Understandable decision to reject Chelsea offer and leave.
Gametime would have been very scarce.

Lampard needs to tweak James’ position to see the best of him and find a better balance in defence. Defensively we looked more sound with one defensive fullback (Azpi) and one attacking (Chilwell). Having both James and Chilwell overlapping would leave us exposed, especially as James isn’t as fast as most attacking fullbacks.
I think that could be resolved by using James as an inverted fullback, sitting in a midfield position. Opens the pitch up for him to make passes or have shots. At the moment it is all too predictable for opposition to defend against as we’re constantly looking to use James for crosses, and he’s not agile enough for touchline play either due to his size.

Yeah I agree. In the immediate future it has to be either Chillwell/Azpi or Azpi/James. Frank will try Chillwell/James in a 433 with Kante DM at some point, will be chaotic but he'll give it a go.
James as an inverted will only work if CHO cements his place on the team sheet, otherwise there's no width from the right at all. And considering they'll have an established partnership from youth level I'm guessing they'd interchange between inverted/WG, WB/inverted naturally anyway. Good idea though.

yes he is.
Rates one player higher than another = moronic
saying someone looks "way" better than someone whos played cl football, won a poty for a championship team and only played 11 pl games is moronic yes.
Especially after James scored a worldy against brighton too. Yes it is moronic
You sound angry that you got rid of the wrong right back from the academy.
I said right now I suppose we can say Cavani is better than Kane because of all he’s achieved in the past

but what does right now mean? because it wasn't last season, so are you literally basing this off of 4 games? and kane has been better than cavani for years. So right now kane is better

I'm sort of torn between this one, it's something I've pondered since I heard Lampety wanted to leave.
Tariq is the one out of our academy that I've enjoyed watching the most over the last 3 or 4 years but not the one I expect to have the best career, which is James.
I had formulated a plan to keep Lampty, that I was going to send to Frank but never got round to it.
In a nutshell, my idea was to tell Frank to forget this notion of signing Rice as a DM, push James in midfield and Tariq and Dave compete for RB!
Should have give Frank a ring really!!
