First console as a kid was a Sega Master System (8 bit?), so naturally for Christmas a few years later I moved on to the Megadrive.
Such a good console and a ridiculous number of great games on that. The console itself and cartridges and controllers were virtually indestructible too
First Nintendo I had other than a gameboy was the N64 which is probably the console I put the most hours into of them all.
Bought a Snes when I was bored of the PS2/Xbox etc for a while. Great bunch of games on that.
As my name suggests, the Amiga was my gaming platform, and have many fond memories from those days. then moved to PC.
Never owned a console until the PS3, although my kids did have a PS2.

I started out with SMS, then onto NES and then on to mega drive. I'm playing Aladdin at the moment, that's one hard drive.

Game boy was brilliant, I got mine with Tetris free, do you rember that screen you could get that was meant to enlarge the picture but just made it a blury mess.?
I had a master system and a NES first.
Then moved on to a SNES.
My mate had a mega drive and we used to take turns who house we went to.
Sonic was amazing back in the day
Atari 5200, Amstrad cpc 464, NES, SNES, Megadrive, Amiga 1200, an Escom P90 pc
Many years later a Nintendo DS to play chess on
Never had a 16-bit console. In my youth I had a bootleg ZX Spectrum (8-bit), a Game Boy Color (8-bit) and the PS1 (32-bit).
Did play a lot of Super Metroid at a mate's house though.

You should get an RG350m admin, it's what I use can play NES, SMS, Snes, Mega drive, Sega CD, Sega 32x, NEOGEO arcade Game gear, GBA, Gameboy, Gameboy colour N64 a bit hit and miss on that.
SNES and n64 got the most use for me.
Zelda and iss soccer what more did you need?
Nintendo all the way, from a NES to SNES then N64.
Mario 64 is still the greatest game I've ever played. Just mind-blowing when that came out. Goldeneye 64 is still the template for multilayer. Game Cube was great and loved Wii too.
I like PS aswell but Nintendo always seemed to be the most groundbreaking in terms of how to play games.

They were both superb, but ocarina of time for me is still the best game ever, no idea what I was playing until I started it, and then it just got better and better

PC Engine is a great little console so underrated.
Amstrad > Game Gear > SNES > Amiga > MegaDrive > 32x > N64
The only modern consoles I think I haven't owned was a Saturn and now an Xbone
As for the original question I think I enjoyed both equally, but overall I would agree and say that the best games were Nintendo. Super Mario World I would still argue easily hangs with any modern 2D platform, and the likes of Zelda till this day are master pieces. Exclusive games on the Mega Drive I don't think aged so well, Sonic for example is a fun game, but it reality it isn't that great a game imo.

Yep, they still are.
SNES - N64 - Gamecube - Wii - PS3 - PS4
Was a massive Nintendo fanboy until the Wii era when they switched to the casual market (fair play to them, it won them the generation).
PS3 and PS4 satisfied my gaming needs since then, however next gen doesn't appeal to me so i'm buying a Switch and back with Nintendo again.
Super Mario All Stars and Super Metroid were the 16bit games for me.

I don't think I played the ones before that one.
Wouldn't mind an ocarina of time remake on the ps5 🤔
