I see no reason why Chelsea cannot win the league. Frank looks to have sorted out their main problem, the defence. the attack/midfield was always going to be good enough, with the first XI and back ups, being top class.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Because liverpool are better for one. You really can’t see any reason? Lol
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Lets see how Pool do this afternoon Nick...without VVD
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't think losing to City is gonna say too much about Liverpool.
VVD is a significant ayer for them, but Fabinho has done really well at CB. So far it looks like they can cope.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
fabinho also injured.
dont think we will win against city today.
hope plays for them. always has misstake in him.

What cb do you have in mind Eric?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
There aren't many good defenders in world football at present - hence the continued influence of players such as Ramos, Pique, Chiellini and Thiago. It would be nice to be at least linked with the likes of Sule, Upamecano, Skriniar. I liked DIas, who City bought - I think he's going to end up being a great centre back. Gimenez of Athletico Madrid has a lot of potential.
I know we'd be likely priced out of many but we don't seem to be making an effort. With a tweak here and there, we have quality in the midfield and forward areas and on the wings. I like our James and Chilwell but we need to find centre backs who can make us top quality.
As for the reasons for our improvement. Yes, Ziyech, Werner, Chilwell etc have been mentioned.
But there are two things that have happened and both are to do with the goalkeeper. Mendy IS NOT a world class goalkeeper but he is a HUGE step up on Kepa. He stops the ball going into the goal many times - a basic skill for a keeper! But he plays that sweeper-keeper role well. He is out of his area giving the passers another option, increasing our field of play. And more importantly, he's not ponderous on the ball, he doesn't play players into trouble, he varies his distribution and keeps the ball moving quickly.
His handling is a times clumsy but the defenders have more faith in him. He is the bigest reason for our improvement.
I tell you what Mendy did in his first game...played a couple of delicious low flighted underspin balls out to the wings to James & Chilwell
I want more of those

I am still worried about our centre backs - we should be looking for a top class, not old, strong, fast centre back. Silva will tire quickly with the amount of games we have.
Mendy looks fair, good distribution, doesn't dwell on the ball, comes for crosses. I hope he continues to grow into the position. Think Chilwell and James balance the team really well. Like them both, especially Reece James - he's going to be world class if he carries on.
Ziyech looks the real deal. Hope he continues and becomes a Chelsea legend. Werner has to start aiming a couple of inches below the bar but I like him too. Kovacic had a good game today but our midfield still fcks around with the ball in front of goal too much.
Much improved. A lot happier than 3 weeks ago. But no league this season.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Am already starting to think how we can replace Silva next summer. Hope the club are too
Ah you already discussed this. Yeah it is actually difficult to think of any CBs of a good age, that is actually realistic, who would provide both the quality but also leadership, and perhaps even ‘respect’ that Thiago silva has brought so far.
Over to you, Chelsea scouting department.
Or, maybe to the Chelsea biotech department to construct a machine that can make Thiago Silva 10 years younger

Lampard has hit the sweet spot with the balance of the team at the moment. As long as we don’t get ravaged by injuries we will be in contention.

We signed a young one towards the end of the window, the end of last season, Sarr? I believe he was going on loan, must check up on his progress but we might be trying to answer questions that Chelsea have already addressed.

He won't be the answer - more squad padding. As for Declan Rice, he has potential as a defensive midfielder but too lightweight for central defence.

I'm not so sure about the padding, I can only go by YouTube clips but in the his distribution was amazing. The following article gives the impression that he held a pretty good scoping of himself against city. He's young and French, could Zouma and Sarr be the next Marcel and LeBeof
