MU52, you may or may not remember that an early Polio vaccine caused paralysis and deaths when rolled out.
Everyone knows about the thalidomide vaccine.
That is why a healthy, young person - and especially pregnant women - should be cautious about heading to the front of the queue.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I do indeed remember, they were horrific. But compared to the number of lives saved, negligable. Of course to the ones invoved tragic.
But it's similar to the people who would never wear a seat belt, and point to an accident where a fire killed the driver because his belt was jammed; (did this ever happen by the way). While ignoring the hundreds of lives safed.

20% of kids given that vaccine developed Polio as a direct result. No real evidence it saved lives.

The on going argument about 95% safe is wrong.
the 95% figure is the effectiveness of the vaccine.
i.e only 5% of the sample caught covid after having the jab.
I have more of a concern about the fact that the Pizer vaccine needs to be stored at -70 degrees.
How would it be possible to get this distributed and administered?

Do we really need 70% to take it? I thought for herd immunity the percentage was a lot less.
Of course I'll take it, but I guess a positive of people refusing to take it is that they are the ones who will most likely suffer and as their numbers decrease there will be a greater percentage of people who are willing to take it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I don’t know if this is THE foremost study but this is the stat from the documentary I watched...
‘According to Johns Hopkins University, 70% to 90% of Americans would need to have coronavirus antibodies for herd immunity to be achieved. Herd immunity helps protect vulnerable people like infants and those with compromised immune systems who can't get the vaccine.’
----------------------------------------------------------------------
People need to avoid making assumptions about ‘herd immunity’.
There are cases now popping up everywhere showing people contracting COVID-19 for a second time. One new one confirmed in Portugal yesterday:
A 48 year-old who had COVID-19 in early July (confirmed by tests). She recovered 15 days later without hospitalisation, with tests no longer detecting the virus.
However, in October she started to get symptoms again, and a laboratory tests confirmed that she had been re-infected.
Symptoms *worse* the second time than the first.
There is no herd immunity against flu. There is no herd immunity against the coronaviruses which cause the common cold.
It’s dangerous to assume that the various extant strains of COVID-19 won’t mutate quickly enough to beat any attempts at reaching a herd immunity.
