I don't think I'd like Maradona quite as much if he wasn't a totally flawed character and dope head. I think it actually adds to his greatness that he was able to rise above all of those character flaws (and Peter Shilton) and be the best footballer on the planet. I also like that he was chummy with Castro and Chavez and didn't give a fack what anyone thought about him. He didn't set out to be and didn't want to be anyone's hero, he was just like, if you don't like me, tough shidt.

Its got fk all to do with what he was like as a person, its what he did with a football that people are touched by.

Sorry someone has died, I really am, but the attention to this guy is being given by the BBC is well over the top. They currently have EIGHT separate articles on him. They have even dragged up o story of the death of George Best, which I am sure his family, friends and fans don't need reminding.
A far bigger English icon died recently ( Geoff Hurst ) and that was given minimal coverage and was dropped as a news item after a day or so.
Fact is the guy cheated England out of the world cup, and wasted a gift that the rest of us would have given anything to have, As well as cheat, he was a drug riddled individual, with no respect for his god given talents.
Sorry to sound heartless, but that's how I feel. Should not be getting the level of attention this is getting in our English media.

Geoff Hurst hasn't died. Probably why it didn't get more coverage
Yes he corrected himself after, he meant Jack Charlton.
Moaning about someone getting more coverage after they died. Get a grip ffs, maradonna was one of the greatest footballers of all time.

Can't ever call someone one of the greatest that cheated like he did on the biggest stage against my country, that would be illogical.

Hopefully one day your bitterness will leave you and the torment of that occasion will be forgotten about.
I hope you find peace.
Who enjoyed Owen taking a tumble against Argentina?
It's not a case of being bitter, I'm great, and I don't care one iota that he is dead, I care far more for the hundreds of thousands of good people that have died recently who didn't throw their lives away to drug addiction, people that actually deserve to be cared about.

Are you suggesting drug addiction is a choice?
Think you’re going down a slippery slope my friend.
He will never be a "great" in my opinion because he abused his status and ability to cheat with his hand on the biggest stage. The arrogance to call it "hand of god" as well, South American win-at-all-costs culture is the sickening thing.
Is it a choice to snort cocaine for the first time? You're damn right it is. Is it a choice to continue all your life? You're damn right it is.
If Henry died you'll be all over it
I’m so glad you’re in the minority.
I suggest not turning on your tv or looking at your phone tomorrow.
Even after death it seems maradonna is living in your head rent free.
Not really, totally different circumstances. Ireland would never have even made it out of the group, England had a good chance to win the WC before his cheating.
