I think the key is that Jose has got the players onside to this strategy. They are walking through walls for him and that is the mentality of title winners. So the mentality is right and time will tell if ability and tactics are gonna be right.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
spot on

it ain't pretty but the players are doing it because it's bearing fruit like Jose has told them it would

You play football to win games, first you build a defensive unit then you add the quality.

Josés ultra defensive side is caused because he doesn't trust all the players so he sets them up to best get the result.

stick with him and back him in the window and the play will get better and better.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
totally agree.

You played a bottom half of the table team, sadly lacking form or luck, what sort of result did you expect?

Against you?

A comfortable 3-0

Mourinho is making a side known for being soft down the years into a battle hardened side in his own image. No point playing fancy ball if it gets you nowhere. He's got those players hook line and sinker and top of league.
Scoring some great goals too, Son and Kane are ruthless and the only way to win is to be ruthless.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It’s early days. But if he wins the league with spurs it would be the equivalent of taking the pre-treatment weedy captain America, with added rickets, scurvy, blind and club footed to winning world war 2 single handedly.

I do have my reservations about the way we play, but this kinda makes it all worth it...

And to be successful, ie, to win a PL title, or a European title, your going to have to be dependent on those two being on top form every week, fit every week, and your defence being solid every week, as there seemingly is no plan b to how spurs play.
Good luck with that.

Harsh in my opinion, Palmers. So close to having a 9-1-1 record if it wasnt for the last minute gifts to Newcastle & West Ham. That’s unreal, we’ve never been so
hard to beat. Undefeated against Utd, Chelsea (twice), Arsenal and City, wow. Undefeated in 10 PL games. 5 clean sheets in 6 games. This is elite stuff, might not always be pretty, but its a winning formula.

To be fair, we haven't needed a plan b yet.

We have been behind for a total of 56 mins all season.

In fact, we were behind against Man U (we won 6-1) and Southampton (we won 5-2). You could argue our plan B is to play expansive, attacking, entertaining football.

It fair enough to play that way against the top 6 or 7, but definitely not against WBA as we did recently, he must really have issues with trusting some of the defenders we have, ok as a group, but individually flawed

Nah you're not.

A lot of people will say this is Jose's way, people that have watched him sparingly from afar without having the feelings of being a fan of a team he's managed, and it's simply not true. He's got the results yes, but this is ultra defensive stuff he's got you doing.

This isn't an anomaly obviously, the classic example is Inter shamelessly shutting out Barcelona in 2010, but on the whole his teams do have more variety than this. Thing I don't get is he's managing you atm as if you're this massive underdog despite the fact when you do break in numbers, and specifically get Kane & Son on the ball, you counter attack almost as well as his Real Madrid team did (IMO the best counter attacking team in Europe the last 10/20 years) so I don't get the negativity - look at what you did to United at OT? If he was managing us, just as a random example, we'd have had similar possession stats but at least twice the attempts on goal in the game probably winning 3-0/4-0.

Personally after the experiences he had at United & in 15/16 I think he's enjoyed the fact he's got a squad atm who are sacrificing their games to do what he wants & loving it, milking it a bit

But the nature of being a counter attacking team is to invite the opposition onto you and then hit them on the break. It's working too.

Today's performance was brilliant. Every player played their role and did what was asked of them. Of course there is room for improvement but we came through unscathed and have another game on Thursday. Up the Spurs lads!

The problem is that Mourinho tries to convince people that playing cowardly football is the only way to win as he’s been successful with it. But it’s obviously not the case as many other teams in the history of football have shown. Some people will never accept that as it’s painful to watch. That’s why so many hated him at United and Real Madrid.

True, but the numbers you commit to the counter attack defines whether the overall approach is aggressive, defensive or somewhere in between.

When you counter attack aggressively you look really good, so I don't understand why he's not got you doing it more often? Fitness reasons perhaps? Dunno.
