Nah the Messi everyone loved died in 2011 after Barca won the CL. Since then he just became obsessed with trying to score more goals than Ronaldo
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What? If anything it’s been the opposite. He keeps topping lists for most assists. Lol. People’s comments on here really have me scratching my head
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The Ronaldo fangirls come up with the most bizarre crap on here, it’s genuinely embarrassing.
Salah narrowly missed out on second place as he picked up 23 per cent of the votes.

I don't get why the players get all this attention when there was an Agent of the Century award on the cards.
Jorge Mendes edged out Mino Raiola, btw.

Years ago, one of Brown or Blair (I cat remember which) said that the people didn’t need to vote on Europe.
Which ever one said this was right. There are too many people who are too stupid to vote as Brexit and Trump supporters have proved. And now Liverpool fans.
Ah the old ronaldo is better than Messi and vice versa.

Good grief you really are one stupid individual.

Yeah ok, Ronaldo 34 still testing himself at a top league. Missi 32 years old decides to run away and play against 40 year olds and Americans who are depressed they mised out on NFL so just make do with football. You lose the right to be in contention for greatest of all time when you run away from the best leagues.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Ronaldo is already playing against 40 year olds in Serie A, and the majority of his goals come from the penalty spot.

of the last TWENTY years?
salah. wow popularity contest vote
If you are going to talk about from 2000 to 2020 you actually have to be born prior to 1990.
Lets just see:
Maldini
Cafu
buffon
figo
pirlo
cannavaro
zidane
henry
ronaldo (the real one)
iniesta
xavi
messi
conaldo.
lahm.
Salah wouldn't and couldnt be in the top 50.
It says it all that its all forwards that get considered but not the absolutely brilliant defenders. I'm not even going to mention gerrard either.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You should. Gerard was a quality player for many, many years.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I could but someone would then get childish about it. Same as some daring to mention Wayne Rooney lol.
Frank lampardand John Terry deserve more of a mention that Rooney.
It is what it is but I find it all very last 5 years.
Salah lol
I'd go:
1) Messi
2) Ronaldo
3) Xavi
4) Ronaldinho
5) Iniesta
Then probably Suarez, Henry, Zidane, Ramos, Zlatan in whatever to make up the rest of the top 10.
Salah probably wouldn't make my top 30.

If its the former then I think its fair to say that anybody voting for anyone other than Ronaldo or Messi is an idiot.

Not that Ronaldo hasn’t been the best player of the last 20 years but what sort of sham award is this? How can you win player of the century when there are still 79 years left to play for. Shouldn’t it just have been player of the decade? Ronaldo wins that undisputedly as Messi has pretty much been in decline since 2011
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Exactly some kid could burst onto the scene in 10 years time and break every record going

Good list. I'd go with it almost to the letter, though I'd edge Zidane in at 5 ahead of Iniesta. Tempted to make room for Pirlo in my top 10 too, at the expense of Ramos.
It's certainly been a great couple of decades for attacking football.
Any believe we haven’t got Giggs and Scholes in there.
Name me ANYBODY else that has more league titles than Fergie?
I’m sure there’s a few in some far flung leagues, but there’s also Ryan Giggs.
And then there’s Scholes ... because pretty much everybody on these lists has agreed Scholes is the best.
Pele: "If he was playing with me, I would have scored so many more."
Lionel Messi: "At La Masia his name was mentioned a lot. He’s a teacher."
Cristiano Ronaldo: "When we were in training, I used to do a lot of tricks which hardly any players at the club could do. Once I was showing my skills to Scholes. After I finished, Scholes took the ball and pointed to a tree which was about 50m from where we were standing. He said, I’m going to hit it in one shot. He kicked and hit the tree. He asked me to do the same; I kicked about 10 times, but still couldn’t hit it, with that accuracy. He smiled and left.
"Zinedine Zidane: "My toughest opponent? Scholes of Manchester. He is the complete midfielder."
Sir Alex Ferguson: "I think Paul Scholes is the best player in England. He’s got the best skills, the best brain. No one can match him. There isn’t a player of his mould anywhere in the world. Paul is irreplaceable."
Luis Figo: "I’m star-struck when I see Paul Scholes because you never see him. On the pitch, you can’t catch him. Off the pitch, he disappears."
Gary Neville: "I wouldn’t swap Paul Scholes for anybody. He is quite simply the most complete footballer I have ever played with. He is the best."
Sir Bobby Charlton: "I have no hesitation in putting a name to the embodiment of all that I think is best about football. It’s Paul Scholes. In so many ways Scholes is my favourite."
Rio Ferdinand: “For me, it’s Paul Scholes. He’ll do ridiculous things in training like say, “You see that tree over there?” – It’ll be 40 yards away – “I’m going to hit it”. And he’ll do it!. Everyone at the club considers him the best."
Patrick Vieira: "The player in the Premiership I admire most? Easy – Scholes."
Edgar Davids: "I’m not the best, Paul Scholes is."
Roy Keane: "No celebrity bullsh**, no self promotion – an amazingly gifted player who remained an amazingly gifted player”
Pep Guardiola: “Out of everyone at Manchester United, I would pick out Scholes – he is the best midfielder of his generation. I would have loved to have played alongside him.”
Cesc Fabregas: "He is the one whose level I aspire to. He is the best player in the Premier League."
Thierry Henry: "I can’t understand why Scholes has never won the player of the year award. He should have won it long ago. Maybe it’s because he doesn’t seek the limelight like some of the other ‘stars’."
Laurent Blanc: "I tell anyone who asks me – Scholes is the best English player."
Dimitar Berbatov: "Nobody else can play the way Paul Scholes does."
Marcello Lippi: "Paul Scholes would have been one of my first choices for putting together a great team."
Brian Kidd: "Paul Scholes had the best football brain I’d ever seen in a kid. Let’s face it. Paul Scholes is in a class of his own."
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer - “He’s not the quickest, he doesn’t run the most, he never wins a header, he can’t tackle but he’s the best player”
Wayne Rooney “He’s unbelievable – he’s one of the greatest of all time.”
Ronaldinho - “I want to pass like him. Who taught him how to do that?”
Maggie thatcher: Paul scholes inspired me to create poll tax. He’s that good I knew people would forgive him. It’s also why Argentina wanted the falklands- its where Paul holidays.
Hitler: I only started the war as cover to try and get Paul scholes, I knew this because of my time machine.
Donald Trump: he’s an aryan great, well kind of, he’s ginger but he’s marvellous, I’d have won the election if I had him.
Jordan Henderson: who is he? Excuse me I have to park my car in this disabled spot.
1) Messi
2) Ronaldo
3) Xavi
4) Ronaldinho
5) Iniesta
------------------------------------------------
I'm reluctant to leave out Ronaldinho but in this case I think I'd have to, certainly as far as the top places go because his peak as glorious as it was, it was too short lived. It's also why Zidane wouldn't feature high in my list given he retired in 2006.
That top three picks itself though. After that it gets more difficult.
Also Brazilian Ronaldo should be way above salah and in or near any top 5 imo.
Paul Scholes was a player that any manager of any team in the world would have wanted. 100% every game.
People overlook Lewandowski's goalscoring record, IMO.
It's phenomenal. He's averaged over 20 *league* goals a season over the last 15 seasons. Add in his cup goals, and it's a 30 goals a season average. That's crazy numbers.
At his current rate, he'll pass Seeler and Eusebio in career goals, and probably get close to Muller and Puskas. I have no doubt that he'll finish top ten of all time if he stays fit.
Given the timeframe, you have to consider him for the third spot, along with Ramos, Buffon, Xavi and Iniesta.
