AWB as a CB Partner for Harry?

Ole clearly wants to pass out from the back even when we're being pressed. AWB is one of our least composed players on the ball.

Not convinced his reading of the game is good enough.

The best defenders don’t end the game with muddy shorts.

No no no.

Being a good tackler does not make you a good centre backs. Positionally AWB is all over the place. And as said above is Smalling-esque on the ball.

People need to face facts with AWB - he is just not a very good player at this level I'm afraid.

When a ball comes in from the left to the back post he looks helpless. Definitely can't see him as a cb.

Shaw might be a better option, he’s decent in a back 3 most of the time, though as part of a cb pair might prove different.

Better than awb that's for sure

Positionally he’d be a disaster - he doesn’t have the awareness.

He isn’t good enough in the air, his feet aren’t tidy enough, and he can’t pass the ball well enough shirt or long, all of which Ole needs.

United must go all out to sign Godfrey from Everton next summer. Too soon to get him this window, but I think it’d be doable in the summer window.

As defending goes AWB is excellent one on one and at making recovery challenges, beyond that he doesn't excel at anything else.

He's fine at dealing with what's in front of him but when players are running off him and running in behind, he's not alert or intelligent enough to be able to spot the danger nevermind actually cope with it.

So to sum up, playing him at CB would be a terrible idea.

Still hoping he'll get that at some point.

I think Lindelof and Maguire are both better short (in particular) and long range than they get credit for, and both well above the level of your average PL CB.

I have wondered this, given his recovery pace and one-on-one ability as well as lack of attacking prowess. But no, I agree with the comments above regarding other shortcomings. He can be a good defensive RB for us but it would be nice to have an attacking alternative.

Oh sweet lord no. He’d be an absolute liability.

Fair comment. At least if we had 2 RBs they could offer something different.

I think AWB would benefit from a proper leader at RCB, one that could guide him and shout at him properly for not being in position. Right now, we have no leaders in defence.

Love this comment

Reuben Dias makes defending look easy. Something only Rio in the modern premier league era could do.

All your so-called great CBs were last-ditch tacklers, always throwing themselves into tackles.

Just play Axel.

He looked better defensively at RB recently than some of AWB's recent performances

Yep. So why would you play AWB in the middle where a mistake is more likely to result in a goal? Axel has all the attributes we need in a partner for Maguire. I can't understand why he hasn't bad a proper chance

Exactly Tuanzebe deserves on opportunity. Been wrapped in cotton wool too much.

He’s be facking shiiiiit as a cb.

The more I watch AWB the more I am convinced we wasted 50m. He has a decent last ditch tackle on him but poor passing, reading of the game and poor attacking ability creates more issues at RB than solutions

Would he be useful as a CB? In a 2? Not sure, maybe in a 3. The way he defends and passes are quite reminiscent of "Mike" Smalling who was shipped out promptly.
