80’s is where the film industry really exploded, obviously mainly down to the roll out of VHS. I remember looking forward to Friday nights, when the ‘video van’ would come onto our road and we’d rent our tapes for the following week. Feels really nostalgic thinking back to it...

Think we got our first VHS recorder in 1981 time. I was allowed the first choice of video to rent out, which was Rocky.

Yeah! I don't think my choice was appreciated by all
Looking through the thread, dozens of amazing films. Some of my fav’s....
An American Werewolf in London - Horror/comedy at its finest. ‘Stay on the track’ and the cinema scene.
Nightmare on Elm Street- As a school kid, the first one was absolutely terrifying, got a bit silly eventually with too many sequels.
First Blood - Possibly my first full on violence film, loved it. ‘What do you hunt, elephants?!’
Not seen Empire Strikes Back or Return of the Jedi. That’s a big miss.
Fatal Attraction.
Planes, Trains and Automobiles.
The Karate Kid, Planes Trains, Lost Boys, Coming to America and BTTF Are the greats
But I do have a soft spot for Howard The Duck
Stay away from The Garbage Pail Kids
Short Circuit
Garbage pail Kids
Howard the Duck
War games
Weird Science
Empire strikes Back
Cocoon
Batteries not included
Platoon
Inner Space
Pretty in pink
Critters

Commando! Must watch
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I was watching one of the SAS: Who Dares Wins guys reviewing army films and he was just shaking his head, laughing reviewing Commando haha. Quality film though
Cujo
Short Circuit
Willow
Hellraiser
The Thing
Can't Buy Me Love
Pet Sematary
The Evil Dead
Child play
Firestarter
Krull
Beastmaster
Dragon Slayer
The Princess Bride
Conan the barbarian
Lady in White
Sleepaway Camp
To start with
I would say it's the best decade for sci-fi:
Back to the Future
Predator
The Thing
Aliens
Robocop
Empire Strikes Back
Blade Runner
The Terminator
E.T.
Don't think any other decade can match that for classics.
The 2010s might have something to say about that
Ex Machina
Snow Piercer
Upgrade
Annihilation
Inception
Melancholia
The Martian
Interstellar
Arrival
Blade Runner 2049
Under Her Skin
Now if you mean just mainly popcorn scifi then yeah probably

Do you think there are 9 on that list that are as good as the 9 I mentioned for the 80's? I don't think so and I really like some of those from the 2010's. I think they are more 7's or 8's out of 10, whereas the 80's ones are more 10 out of 10, apart from E.T. perhaps.
More a case of quality over quantity for me.
Also forgot Back To The Future, Predator and Terminator. So many great films to choose from!
