It's so strange that Saka wasn't moved back to LB. He was able to influence games from there, and dovetailed defensively with Xhaka.

A bit surprised Arteta's opted for Holding and Mari as the CB options considering how awful they were in the first leg.

Happy that Laca and Tierney at least made the bench for today though.

I mean I really like the look of it, would rather Tierney at LB though but I get it. Imagine we will see Bellerin very high and wide and Saka coming central to link up more too

I thought he might have put Gabriel in for some more pace considering the attacking line up, but maybe he doesn't trust him without Luiz and doesn't want to risk Luiz

I'm guessing Saka at LB, Xhaka in midfield, Pepe right and ESR left.

Would have been how I played it but the way the names are on the lineup suggests otherwise, maybe it's all misdirection though.

At least we can change things around a bit early on without making a sub if things aren't working

Gabriel can also be quite rash. And he's a bit panicky under pressure as well. I think he's got all the minerals to be a very good CB, but he's still slightly raw. I can understand why he wasn't selected. Although we're not exactly spoiled for choice right now.

It makes sense. Not only pace to deal with a tricky winger in Chukwueze but will also be an attacking LB that pins Chukwueze and the RB back too.

I like it tbh

I would be surprised if that's how we lined up. If it was 343 it would make more sense to play Elneny.

But we'll see. Flexible at least

That's one of our most attacking lineups this season. We will definitely score, just wary of Villarreal on the counter. I hope Partey is up to the task.

We seriously need to break the bank and double Rodgers' salary, otherwise we face another half a season of work experience boy faaacking it up before someone else is brought in at Christmas to pick up the pieces of another ruined season. Problem is that Edu, Josh and Vinai are all work experience boys themselves when it comes to their footballing jobs.
