Not sure I get this debate tbh, as the Cavani one isn’t a particularly good example of a player exaggerating contact.
It was really bad positional play from Fabinho though, he’s coming in at completely the wrong angle to what he should be.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The best way of saying it is that it's a cheap and silly free kick to give away in a position like that.
Fabinho not being a natural CB was exposed yesterday as he went in with another similar reckless challenge in the first half which resulted in Pogba's free kick going wide. Although I'm not quite sure it was his fault either there, but even still it was a reckless tackle.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I agree. He did this earlier in the season, coming from behind but actually won the ball and it was outside the box but conceded a penalty. He's had two instances of this not working now, so perhaps needs to stop doing it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That's his game, he will break up the play as he is a strong, physical holding midfielder. That's actually what he does best. The obvious difference is the position.
Making a silly, reckless tackle to break up the flow of a potentially dangerous attack 25-30 yards out in a DM role is far less dangerous than doing it in a CB position 20 yards from goal, or in the Sheff United's penalty case, even deeper.
This is why players can't be played out of position and be successful, it will just cost too many errors in the long run and that's becoming evident.

Depends who is available, at what price etc. A lot of deals seem to be loan deals, but I wonder if clubs would prefer permanent transfers and then the matter is the price.
A lot of defenders Liverpool have been linked with are around the £20m mark, if not above in some cases. Liverpool won't just go out and buy a stop gap for £20m that hasn't been scouted well enough to be deemed good enough.

Surely the answer is a PL proven centre half - maybe an older player.
Doesn't need to be financially shrewd, just needs to get you through a few months.

It’s a shame seeing Cavani blatantly cheating yesterday. Been a big fan of Cavani for a long time and never had him as one to do that type of thing.
I guess they were wrong about Ole not being able to coach players as they have perfected the art of simulation to a tee under him.

I don't think so. Usually a requirement for a Liverpool defender is to also be very good on the ball, which means a premium. I don't see why we'd pay a premium on a defender, when we have our two first choice defenders to come back in a few months. Fabinho has this requirement and has been excellent in defence. This is something that had been worked on for a couple of years, which both Fabinho and Klopp have alluded to. It wasn't just an emergency option, it was the plan that he would be fourth choice centre back. Of course nobody was expecting the two first choice centre backs would be both put out for nearly the whole season.
It just doesn't make financial sense.

That is the answer. The answer is easy to identify, anybody with any sort of decent experience at PL level would suffice, but Liverpool don't operate that way in the transfer market. But even if they did, how many players fall under that category that are available and of sufficient quality?
But in response to the post below about Lovren, it was a mistake to sell him without a replacement as the risk was there. The club are paying the price at the moment.

Fill your boots!
In all seriousness, if accurate, Saiss should be on your hit list?
Ivanovic at West Brom?
Worth a nibble?
Shame Rojo is injured... he'd be perfect
How many of those would actually be available? Maybe one of Fernandez or Schar from Newcastle, but neither are good enough. The same could be said about Balbuena.
The one I'd go for from that list would be Eric Garcia personally. Saiss, I can't imagine Wolves would sell actually.
Garcia I can't think City would sell to a direct rival and will end up at Barca I feel anyway.

I think you'd have a decent chance of getting a Wolves player for £20-25 mil with 5 months left on his contract.
City, not so much.
Other options, expiring 2022:
Tarkowski
Mee
Christensen (although Lampard departure makes that harder)

I think a bit of digging to find players with low contract lengths would be required.
How about David Luiz?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I rest my case.

In all seriousness, if accurate, Saiss should be on your hit list?
