Real mixed bag of a performance last night. I can see why Nuno wants to get Neto, Traore, Podence and Jose all in the team as we offer a real threat going forward. But the back four were all over the place at times and we could easily have been 3 down early on.

If you look back at their goal Semedo made 4 mistakes from losing the ball in midfield to being brushed aside in the area. But he did have a good game otherwise. Coady is fine in a back 3 but vulnerable when he has to face up to attackers in a back 4. And I felt sorry for Kilman who has been looking a top centre back in the making but looked hopelessly exposed as a full back. Our best back four would probably be Semedo, Boly, Kilman, Jonny.

Best balance is probably to go with those 4 and play all 4 of the attackers or play a back 3 and leave out Podence.

But most important was the result last night and although Arsenal committed hari kari with the sendings off, you could see the confidence returning to our play

yea there's loads of tweets, some wishing our players harm others incandescent because of the above pic.... the Luiz sending off was harsh, but that's the letter of the law, not the ref's fault

I can honestly say, without fear of contradiction, that is probably the first time that sentence has ever been uttered!! VAR in particular has been our nemesis since its introduction

c'mon as a gooner it cant be a surprise to have luis sent off. the bloke's an idiot. and if a goalie is 5 yards out of his area and handles then what do you expect ?

blame your players, we were there for the taking first 10 minutes

I think it would be wise to play Boly, Coady and Saiss (when fit) at the back. Semedo was much better yesterday when he was in a more forward position and it looked like we went with a back three in the second half. That mat well be different if Saiss is let go in the summer.

As for the game, we were woeful in the first half and were fortunate to only have conceded the one goal. The attitude changed in the second half and Moutinho's screamer, plus playing against 10 men, gave the whole team a confidence boost.

A liitle disappointed that we couldn't get another goal or two after they went down to 9 men, but the result I hope, will booster the squad and maybe put them in the right frame of mind for our next match against Leicester.

Once Jonny is back a back four will improve considerably. The only thing left to do then is drop Coady for a better defender, either Saiss or Kilman.

Like the look of Vitinha by the way, would like to see a little more of him. Also another thing I have noticed a few times is that it always appears Neto has a huge amount of love for Moutinho, have noticed little snippets here and there pre game etc and last night it looked like Neto was more excited than Moutinho after the goal.

Oh and also looks like we are going to be facing Southampton at the perfect time in the cup, on a poor run and with a massive amount of injuries.

Hold on Cinci, wasn't Vitihno on your failure list?

Vitinha, or however you spell it

When talking about Coady being replaced because he can't play in a back 4, everyone seems to have forgotten that when Nuno arrived at the club Coady was playing as a right back in a back 4. Kenny Jackett moved him there from midfield.
Personally I think a back 4 of
Coady....Saiss.....Boly.....Jonny
could be made to work quite effectively.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

He is currently a failure in terms of impact yes. He may come good. You misunderstood my list it seems. The list was a right here and right now gauge of the signings that should be improving the side, not a 'lets hope in the future'.

Story is he won't be staying in the summer so I doubt we will ever find out. You need to remember if we keep him we pay 20 million. You seen enough to suggest he is worth paying 20 million for? No, I didn't think so.

posted on 3/2/21

Not that impressed with Semedo overall Gem but can't say I would want to see Coady ahead of him at right back and no way Nuno is benching our record signing to do that. Hoever would be more likely.

posted on 3/2/21

Yes I know you are all about the here and now. But that is not the model Wolves are using. We are building for the future.

You Put Vitinha on a fail list. then you post you wanting to see more of him. He obviously has something, and 20 million could prove to be some shrewd business.

We have bought a lot of very talented youngsters, they will need time to prove anything.

Sorry Gem but there's no chance I'd wanna see Coady at RB (long term)

You are correct in saying Coady used to play right back for us. What you forgot to mention is that he was pretty hopeless there

And there are those words. Could could could. How about a little bit of now? You go on about how we shouldn't squander money but then you support spending huge amounts on potential rather than something more solid.

I would like to see more of him, he looks like he has some ability, have I seen 20million worth of ability? At this stage no. Perhaps a month from now I will have.

Kilman and Boly would certainly be my first choice centre backs from the players we have right now
