there is no justification to have spent £34 mill on silva. his record at porto was 12 games and 1 goal
haaland's record was 16 games for salzburg and 17 goals. dortmund paid 20 mill euros
silva has scored 2 in 15 games for wolves.
haaland has scored 27 in 29 games for dortmund
the whole situation stinks

There is far more risk in buying youth with potential than buying established players surely you are not arguing otherwise?
I have no problem with picking up youth talent, what I don't like is when that appears to be the main aim, Vitinha, Silva and RAN will cost us over 75 million. Are you seriously telling me that for a club of our stature after back to back seventh place finishes that is the best use of our money?
Well we have seen the answer, we got a few injuries, had to turn to kids and now will finish considerably lower down the table and more importantly have lost any momentum and will likely see a star or two leave in the summer.
Far more risk buying youth with potential than buying established players. There is actually far less risk financially, and to right anyone off at 18 is ridiculous.
Maybe it would be wiser to big spend on some Barcelona fullback? Oh wait, you have written him off as well.

There is far less risk financially if we are paying under five million perhaps, but we are not are we? 35 million for one project goes completely against your spending money argument, I don't know why you can't just admit that. Add two possible 20 million projects to that and it gets out of hand.
Bringing through youth is great, we have a few looking decent, Kilman, Otasowie, Corbeanu, Giles, Mir or the lad we lost to Sporting in the summer. They all cost next to nothing but are any of those really that huge a gulf behind the three we would pay 75 million for?
It has to be a balance, we need some wiser heads along with the kids we develop. When you pay 35 million you can't just hope they come good, they have to come good. It is too early for Silva to be judged properly, he may be a late bloomer but there is no way anybody can honestly say they can see why he was valued at 35 million today.
And the whole thing is compounded when because of that fee he has to be used as our back up striker as we didn't bring in anyone else when we should have. It just cost us two months of a season.
As for Semedo, I think he is alright, he has shown signs of improvement. I questioned the signing before it happened as I had watched him and Barca a good amount in CL games(they are probably my second team) and despite being in one of the most attacking sides in history he barely scored or assisted goals. So far he isn't bringing anywhere near as much to the team as Doherty, nobody can even argue otherwise, and after paying 30+ million that is very disappointing.
i hope to god that whoever it is who advised us that silva was a great way to spend £34 mill of our transfer budget is sacked or never again allowed to have anything to do with our recruitment.

if they can take the person that signed off on our away shirt too
Arsenal appealed against the red card for David Luiz but that appeal was rejected and the sending off stands as the correct decision
Cinci of course it has to be a balance. But our long term aim is to spend on promising youth and bring them to fruition.
The cost of some of the signings may be big, but the wages will be where major savings are being made.
You work to some pretty basic equations, The trouble is if they were followed, the club could end up in a lot of trouble, if things don't pan out.
