and...another golden generation appears out of the mist...
Good enough for Semi's I expect
Problem for Southgate (good one to have) is that both Foden and Grealish play out wide. Neither can drop in midfield so it means to play the both then players like Sterling, Rashford will have to be dropped. Foden has a bit of pace but it won't be the quickest front 3 with Kane.
Not Pickford
James Stones Not Maguire Shaw
Henderson Rice
Sterling/Sancho Foden Grealish
Kane
England did well at the world cup because teams couldn't compete with them size wise. Most goals were from set pieces or penalties from grappling in the box.
Trying to form a small technical team would just play into the hands of the best teams who would simply just be better technically.
What England need to concentrate on is playing to their strengths. Andy Carroll should be the first name on the team sheet. Possibly even Akinfenwa. Study Tony Pulis' Stoke of 2012 in fine detail. If England let it turn into a football match then 99% of the time they will lose.
Get the ball in the air. The average height of an Englishman is 5'10. The average height of a foreigner is 5'6. You do the math.
England have loads of great players now that they could field 2 strong teams.
In terms of who would get a look in currently, Foden and Grealish look the best to me. Rashford, Sancho and arguably Sterling should probably struggle to get in a first team because of those 2, unless you change the system to get others in.

The BBC are United fans. They're still trying to make Sancho to United happen.
Grealish should be the 1st name on the team sheet. Unfortunately FA Boy can't drop his favourites 1st no matter how bad there performing.
it does appear to be another golden generation for England, going to make it even funnier when we beat you at the Euros with a bunch of jobbers
Your keeper will chuck one in and it will all come crashing down.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Grealish and Foden should be the first names on the team sheet. Instead it's Pickford and Trippier. That's Southgate for you.
Southgate is wedded to this 343 set up
Kane and Sterling are nailed on and Grealish's form will probably (hopefully) get him the final spot.
In Southgate's mind there just isn't room for any more attackers than that
Maddison and Mount having good seasons and developing well too, more all round midfielders with an attacking edge. Good squad/group of attackers we have now but from the CM backwards it's poor centrally.
Full back options are great, but CM/DM/CB is trash and that's where we will fall short of the better sides.
Pope/Henderson
James/TAA Stones Maguire Shaw/Chillwell
Rice Henderson
Sterling Foden Grealish
Kane
Rashford/Sancho as back up for any of the 3 behind Kane (or Rashford as CF if needed).
Maddison/Mount as back up for either Grealish or one of the CM's if we are looking for a goal and need to go more attacking.
Saka in the squad as a perfect International tournament player as he can fill in pretty much anywhere apart from CB and still look fantastic
Plenty of options, but Southgate will play 5 right backs, Dier, Rice and Henderson, probably Winks too.
Some fab English players available now. More young ones coming along too. Just wish I had more confidence in the manager.
Like Jenas said on MOTD, I'd take all of these good wingers/number 10s - Foden, Grealish, Maddison, Mount, Rashford, Sterling, and sacrifice a CF place.
Kane
DCL
Rashford
Sterling
Mount
Maddison
Foden
Grealish
Sancho
Rice
Henderson
Mings
Coady
Maguire
Stones
TAA
Trippier
James
Shaw
Chilwell
Pope
Henderson
Pickford
Something like that, with a few unlucky to miss out.

It sounds good but say Henderson gets Injured in the first game - you then have mount and rice playing 90 minutes every game
There just isn't room for all 6 of Grealish, Sterling, Sancho, Foden, Rashford and Sterling. There's barely room for 5 of them but you feel like they're so good you have to take them

I'd rather take Winks over Trippier but it's almost pointless putting down a selection without Southgate's godson.
Stones could always be pushed into a holding midfield role if it came to that.
If Henderson got injured it would be unlucky but we aren't too blessed in the midfield department anyway. With England at the moment it's about getting by on mainly the strength of our attacking options.
JWP just for his free kicks
I forgot JWP. I would have him over Trippier or Winks.
Object to this.
Squad is missing Tammy Abraham...who happens to have the best goals to game ratio amongst all the England forwards to score 20+ over the past couple of seasons (excluding pens).
Also generational talent..Callum Hudson-Odoi, the only one to score against City' formidable CB pairing from open play in the past 12 matches.
Said player provides the xfactor and completeness which few in the squad can. Elite.
Cardinal sin to leave them both out.
