Not sure i agree. Firmino has been in decline for a year and half while Salah is still going strong. We tried to strengthen with Jota and Thiago and both have been injured.

Not buying it sorry you don't overhaul your team every year. We bought 3 players, 2 of which are first team, this summer.
———————————————————————-
Other top teams seem to. Why should we be any different?
We did try but the players who were bought to go straight into the first team have been injured or still injured. Keita, Thiago and Jotha are ready made players to go straight into the first team but all three have missed huge chunk of the season. Minamino did not work out. Biggest mistakes we made was not replacing Lovren or go for an experienced centre forward on 1st Jan and secondly playing Jotha in the last match of the CL.
Ooooh the excuses are still coming out Roy Keane was spot on!

If you think that Liverpool have been playing at their peak for two seasons - remember they finished 2nd to City with 97 points the year before last. They won Champions League in 2019, reached the final in 2018 and more or less with the same squad and same players. Add the effect of Covid and the pressure of being a target for everyone - it's normal they have a dip. They are tired.
Absolute nonsense.
We are missing 3 CBs.
Our best midfielders are playing at CB.
Our best back up forward is injured.
Absolutely nothing to do with being burnt out
People miss the fact that just before covid we were grinning to a halt and ran out of steam inextra time v atletico and went out of cl.
We had a great run but we bought nobody the summer before.
We did well the year before with fabinho etc and that improved us
We have built and evolved but have been adding the alissons and fabinhos and then stayed static. The front 3 were indeed ran into the ground.
I believe mane got all of 2 weeks off?
Since we returned from covid break we've been really mixed.
The attempt to bring in jota and thaigo and tsimikas was great. But we've just not lokmed ourselves.even before that.
Mane doesn't look half the player.
Firmino a shadow.
Trent can't defend
Robertson looks like he doesn't want to go forward now.

This 100%, add to that the full backs are on a leach due to defensive frailties.
We’re be a lot better next season, just have to suck it for now and hope we get top 4.

Chill bobs, every keeper has the odd game where they have a mare.
I know, he’s a quality keeper, but it was funny
This whole situation bears some similarities to his last season at Dortmund. Let’s hope this isn’t repeated.
The likelihood that FSG didn’t match his strategy to refresh the team with the funding needed to achieve it could be a source of frustration.
Now add in the reports that Bayern are interested in his services, along with the DE national side who’s interest has been long established.
Current frustrations could be summarised as follows:
Attitude and mentality of the First XI
Stubbornness of the manager
Lack of support from FSG.
There are probably others:
Worrying track record of training injuries
The advancing years of our previously imperious front three
The ongoing impact of COVID on stadium attendance
There’s been a number of “powerful statements” made by the club in recent days, from the Manager, from Jordan indicating a determination to arrest our slump in performance. A combination of improvements in attitude plus a probably begrudged willingness by Klopp to play our new CB’s so our MF can be properly populated might be the answer for our game against Leicester.
I still think you have to understand that Liverpool's system and style of play is so physical, so fast, press and counter, that it takes a lot out of the players. The team was impeccable for just over 2 years and it's normal that that type of physical and mental pressure finally gets to players.
This is why defending a title is very hard to do.
Injuries are not excused that can be used but it is legitimate excuse. You really should have looked for a decent center back to bring in. That period you did well with injuries probably did you more harm than good.
I'm not buying the burn out argument tbh. If you were still playing football at the same pace you were when he first took over absolutely, that's what burnt Dortmund out even with the winter breaks in Germany, but the last two & a half years he's completely modified the style. Not to mention Thiago specifically slows the pace down, he's like Jorginho, that's his whole thing
It's quite simple from where I sit. The FB's & VVD were the playmakers your front 3 fed off last year & all three of those outlets have gone. The FB's haven't been as effective & without VVD you've lost those long diagonals to get in behind high D-lines. Basically without attempting to replace at least one of those key components (e.g. an outstanding ball playing CB) you're paying the price for being one dimensional.
The Dortmund example that I keep hearing it ridiculous. Every year he kept losing his best players with players like Sahin, Lewandowski, Gotze moving and not just moving but moving to the number one team in Germany (not Sahin). Dortmund can't compete with Bayern and it was a miracle they did.
In his final season they made a number of new signings which did not work for Klopp. Players like Auba and Mkhitarian did not settle immediately so Klopp called time at Dortmund.
It's ok saying keep refreshing the squad, but, as the question was a year or two ago, who realistically is going to want to join the club to be a squad player?
The club have been stocked on midfielders for years so that's never been an issue, but when you look at the front 3, how many players of quality will join? Yes Jota has been successful but how many "Jota's" are there out there? Werner said no for example.
I think it's a case of it's easier said than done.
Don't really see the hype about Keita. Been there a few years, always injured and has as many good games a season as Jones used to at United before Ole came in. He should be one of the first players out the door.

That's the thing though. You can't keep waiting. It's rare to get a Ledley King or a Robin Van Persie type players. Got to cut your losses before you have Jones on your hand.
