I mean, having a injury ravaged squad might explain it?? And before anyone says the injuried are because of exhaustion, a number of them are impact injuries and increased injuries has been noted across all the major leagues this season due to the game schedule so can't be specifically set against us. Some major confirmation bias going on here.

I still think you have to understand that Liverpool's system and style of play is so physical, so fast, press and counter, that it takes a lot out of the players. The team was impeccable for just over 2 years and it's normal that that type of physical and mental pressure finally gets to players.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Everyone has had the best and longest break of their lives from March to June. Players have never and will never get a break like that again. It's a pathetic excuse.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This.
Go look at the Barca team who dominated for years. They were also full of players who dominated in the euros and world cups, nobody cried about them being tired.
Liverpool have fallen off this season because they have lost the best centre back in the world, and their most important payer in VVD. This has been compounded by losing two other centre backs. They then lose in midfield because Klopp plays Fabinho and Henderson at the back.
So effectively Liverpool's defence has been ravaged by injuries and their central midfield.
People don't seem to understand that if you lose your defence, and engines in midfield, this can also impact upon how well you attack and goals you score.
The Villa Park Massacre was where everything started to unravel. The high line attacking myth came crashing down. The arrogance of not changing tactics to stop the horror. Players ontop of the world not used to losing and in such a way. The excuse of 'just an off night' proving wrong.
I don't agree.
the issues were there long before.
If you look back were were losing our form in feburary last year and we got beaten by atletico after extra time in CL after putting in a good 90 but the league results were starting to be a big struggle.
After lock down imo we were never right.
The 7-2 v villa was a symptom of this. The high line is not the issue. its having guys not pressing, not closing down and the villa lad having all the time to put the ball into the space behind.
the state of the defending from trent yesterday letting sterling inside and robertson doing the same with foden is exactly what grealish exploited again.
To call a team's tactics a myth when it got 99 points is laughable.
the reality here is that the press is gone, gaps are appearing everywhere. and its really easy to play out form the back against us.

Ooooh the excuses are still coming out Roy Keane was spot on!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Keane talking through his ass, as normal
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Nope, he’s spot on, we’ve had excuse after excuse from Klopp and some of the fans!
Look we all know keane is a sarky no good, mealy mouthed, angry excuse for a man
But he always comments from the point of view of utmost standards that most people never achieve.
Keane is within that context right. We are bad champions.
Since the covid stop we have not seen the same level of hunger, for whatever reason. We are very inconsistent and don't look like we are really adhering to the standards we set ourselves.
I think we all know what we served up v city was not "us"
Neville stated twice in that game, 10mins into each half he was expecting us to go hell for leather at city.
he's said it before as well.
We didn't. we played to not lose. We played safe.
then we made subs who totally disrupted the team and we fell apart.
thats not "us"
therefore we are bad champions. We look it. We look like we have sat up with a bit fat cigar and our feet up very pleased with ourselves.
I am very sure klopp is very much unhappy with it but I'm also sure he spoke with the players at length about what was needed for this city game and the players went out and delivered the exact opposite.

Agreed, the subs killed it but it was fatally flawed the moment our hastily assembled CB replacements were not played, although one got as far as the bench. Our normally impressive midfield populated the CB positions so we were toothless in attack.
It was either managerial stubbornness or a carefully prescribed strategy to highlight to the owners just how bad it is going to get, particularly given how much those competing for the Title / Top 4 have net spent on augmenting their squads.
Leicester is going to be another pivotal game in a long line of pivotal games. Lose that and even Top 4 is not necessarily guaranteed if current performance levels don’t improve.
Look when you've have little time then to risk it v city is a hard call.
I dont know why klopp made 3 subs at once personally.
I do know however leicester is key now as we will be out of cl staring at europa next year if we lose that too.
It's now a 10 wins from 15 games scenario for 4th.
Ignoring evertons 2 games in hand, the reality is we are 1 point ahead of Chelsea and behind leciester in real terms.
We need the win as I've no faith in staying ahead of the "new" Chelsea.
We have to use this week very well.
