Both the European and World cups are voted for are they not?

Brexit has basically torpedoed any hope England has of hosting any international competition that requires a vote.

European countries won't vote for us.

Simple as that
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I assure you that this kind of sentiment exists only in the UK media, and not, in reality, on the continent.

There’s no war on the UK, hatred for the UK, mistrust of the UK or desire to cause problems for the UK or its people.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't think there's widespread hatred of us in Europe, but you only have to look at at Eurovision to know Matty is right when it comes to voting.

We're way down the list in terms of likeability.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That isn’t Brexit-related; it’s been like that for a long time

The vast majority of Europeans I speak to (and there are a lot from all over the shop here - Spanish, German, French, Italian, as well as the Portuguese) are still just confused and saddened by Brexit.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Doesn't matter if it's Brexit related or not, though I think it's probably a factor given the leave campaign, we aren't going to win any popularity contests in Europe.

Doesn't mean they hate us, just that they may prefer others.

And your sample of 5 is hardly representative of Uefa's 55 voting countries.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah; I was just responding to Mattyp’s assertion that Brexit was the factor that’d condemn any chances.

2017 actually saw the UK get its best Eurovision tally for ten years. Must have been sympathy voting because the tune was diabolical

Boris is a hero up there with Churchill. Greatest couple of leaders this nation have ever had. Corbyn would have bankrupted the country by now and we'd all be speaking Mandarin.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Corbyn was a clueless misfit but Boris is an opportunist c@nt who doesn't give a toss about anyone but himself and his countless offspring. He's not even running the country ffs – his wife is.

I'm not an anti vaxer but I'm surprised that ppl are accepting this as an immediate remedy, no one knows no one is if these vaccines are able to do the job needed to flatten the virus we might not know for years.

So can anyone tell me what the future looks like wedding wise? My niece is getting married in July I believe after delaying a year, is it likely by then that more than fifty people can attend?

Probably know more after 3.30pm. I think that's when they're doing the roadmap.

Step 4, no earlier that 24 June, no limits on weddings etc.

Could be in luck Cinciwolf, obviously all depends on the data between now and then.

^^^ I may have misheard that according to Sky:
____

• 21 June at the earliest: All legal limits on social contact set to be removed, with the remaining sectors of the economy reopened. Weddings are the only events where some restrictions may have to remain

Cheers Sol. Time will tell i guess

Have to say it makes little sense that anything goes except weddings by that point. Even talk of 10000 at football games.

I think they’re pretty confident, from the “real world” results they’ve now seen, that the vaccines cut both transmission and serious illness - not completely, of course, but enough to be a game-changer. Whether it turns out like that in the long(er) run is a different matter, but I think there are grounds for optimism. We’ll see.

seems to me like people have short term memory loss or summat

as soon as infection rates fall, the calls to open up society begin again

best off all but eliminating the virus before you start letting people back in pubs, etc

school kids shouldn't be going back in a couple of weeks either imo.....case numbers still far too high

I agree, I don't see the point in rushing back, but there again if they had done things right first time we would never have been in this mess now but alas people are s
