the best you can say about Mourinho is that this squad is treading water. It is not improving.
You could argue that it is not going downhill. But whether that is true is going to become evident very quickly now.
If Mourinho puts Doherty on the field again ........
that will be the END....
for Mourinho.
Also to save his job he has to win the Europa.
The players are also cowards. Maybe they are in awe of Jose?? But nothing would stop me being up for the battle in a derby...despite what the manager says.

End of the season then
Even though for 80 mins yesterdays performance was obscene (against our biggest rivals) getting rid of Jose with only 10 league games to go and us going deep in 2 cups would be silly.
The end of the season will be autopsy time.
The fact we won't get Jose 2 or 3 top players in the summer and shift enough players, then we may as well get rid after the league cup final/when we are out of the EL
If we win something back him and see how he starts next season. I can't stand these performances as much as anyone but it is what it is.
Still lots to play for this season, see if we can improve for further big games..
Son probably out for 4-6 weeks.
At least we have Rabona Mike.
It felt like Jose set up to try and repeat the gameplan you had against us last time round. And last time we walked straight into the trap because we were on a poor run of form and were trying to play ourselves out of it. This time around Arteta was a bit smarter and it felt like we were dominating without looking in any danger on the counter. Then Lamela scored a worldie and it looked like Mourinho was going to get away with the wrong tactics...
But the trouble with starting slowly is that it can be very difficult to change direction and start playing with intensity once you've settled into a defensive mindset. Once Son went off your best counter-attacking combination was no longer there. We were able to keep plugging away because you still posed very little threat on the counter.
And before Lamela got sent off it looked like the game was going to turn into a niggly midfield battle which suited us just fine. Bizarrely, going down to ten men actually helped you, and for the last ten minutes you looked far more dangerous. Perhaps that was a combination of tired legs and nerves from Arsenal, and a realisation from Spurs that you had nothing to lose, a loss was expected with 10 so you might as well go for it.
The problem with sitting in a deep block, waiting for the mistake and playing on the counter is you need really dangerous players on the break to do it. When you've got the likes of Hazard and Costa, Drogba and Robben (or Son and Kane), who will attack every ball and chance like the first of the game, you don't have to worry so much about the rhythm of the game. But this strategy relies on having those quick, accurate, physical players.
Attacking us from kick off yesterday would have been a gamble - a typical end to end NLD. But when Kane is at the sharp end for you and with your starting front four, while we have youngsters and Lacazette (who didn't have a good game at all), I think more times than not you'd have come out on top.

When I saw the respective lineups I thought you were gonna go at us from the start and I was worried. And when we were on top after 20 minutes and had failed to score the Arsenal live thread was full of comments about how missing all those chances was going to cost us and how you were gonna score with your first attack (which you did).
It was what we expected from a Jose team - we've seen this movie before many times against Chelsea where we dominate, don't take our chances, and they punish us on the counter. Two goals, game over. But yesterday you weren't creating much on the counter at all - Lamela's goal was all about his finish, we had plenty behind the ball. And you didn't kick on from it and start threatening to get in behind. So we were able to come back.
If he was to read this article, I would imagine if he answered honestly, he would point to two defensive mistakes that cost two goals. And he'd have a point. Hojbjerg is mostly well loved by us fans and rightly so, and yes he may be tired after playing so much this season. That doesn't excuse him staying in the D behind Odegaard when he can see him standing in space in the box right in front of him, with the two centre backs occupied. Hojbjerg does his job, a very simple one, that goal doesn't happen.
Sanchez at fault again for the penalty, needlessly losing his head. Jose won't put up with that sort of thing for much longer IMO.
I'm not saying this is all correct, and that we set up correctly yesterday. But in Mourinho's mind, he must be thinking, why did we manage to shut this lot out at home with relative ease, and then make such silly mistakes when we play them again?
The blame Jose for everything argument does not wash.
We have all followed this club, in some cases for many years, and games like yesterday have been all too common over the years, no matter who the manager is.
We have had so called top players go missing in big games, or suddenly forget how to play in these big games, time and time again.
Use Kane as a typical example. The guy can play some wonderful stuff, but when a big game comes along, usually against a top club, he always disappears.
I can only think of one game where the whole team stepped up and refused to come out second best. That was the Ajax semi second leg, and surprise, surprise, Kane did not play.
Yesterday was at least as much down to the players. It is the usual format. A big game, a chance to make a statement, and not one of them was up for it from the get go. Our goal was gained totally against the run of play, and they must of all known it would get worse if they did not change things. But no, they just carried on the same.
The players gave up possession, gave up territory, and frankly, as is always the case in a big game, the opposition players simply wanted it more and were prepared to graft harder.
These are all experienced players who simply do not have the ability to wrestle control back in games where they must clearly see or feel they are second to everything.
whos blaming him for 'everything'?
every manager who has left spurs in the past havent been at fault for everything
1. Setting up to defend at all costs and rely on a moment of genius is not a sustainable plan. Worldies like Lamela's yesterday don't happen every game and allowing your opponents possession and territory will lead to more shots on goal, some of which will go in. Simple maths. Case in point: 8 losses from last 8 games vs top-10 sides.
2. "Wait till summer to sack him" doesn't wash with me. I understand it's a big call to sack him before the Europa final, but a new manager could get to grips with the squad, work on a new approach and (crucially) start making enquiries and contacts with new signings in time to take care of transfer business early in the summer. That all allows the new manager to hit the ground running next season, rather than having to sort through all the fallout from sacking Mourinho at the start of the summer which will only delay and frustrate matters for the new guy. How many times have we seen Spurs fail to get their dealings done early, leading to a sluggish start to the new season with new players unable to integrate until the winter or later...
The signs are all pointing in one direction. Get rid of Mourinho, now. He's not turning it round now, he never has before. When the slide sets in with Mourinho, it's terminal.
I don't know if he told the players to sit back or they ended up being too passive on their own accord. It's hard to fully know but one thing is for sure, it doesn't work. We simply have too many mistakes in the team that it'll cost us sitting back and soaking up pressure.
Defensive pragmatic football is in his DNA, he said he'd be more attacking when he went to United and Spurs but it's just not who he is.
it just screams to me that when we play a United or Arsenal in the EL we are gonna do the same thing and lose.
And if Oliver had given us that pathetic penalty instead of Arsenal, and sent Zhaka off instead of Lamela, people would be lauding Mourinho this morning instead of lambasting him.
Such is the fine margins and influence referees have over games of football, and the reactionary and fickle nature of most fans.
Mourinho is not without his faults, but you can not question his record, and unquestionably Michael Oliver influenced yesterdays result.

We are already in the realms of writing off next season if we dont act quickly and get rid of him now. Our squad is starting to look quite old and with Mou's abysmal record of bringing on young players its looking a bit bleak for the future.
If Levy has a plan on the football side I'm not seeing it aside from lucking our way into the CL by winning the EL.
