Wolves v Liverpool [LIVE]

Hard to understand why the foul by Allison on Semedo wasn’t reviewed by var. Would surely have resulted in a penalty if it was.

Thought we played well on the night in an entertaining game. Jose was much better tonight although again never really looked like scoring. Traore created his share of openings but Neto never really got going on the night. Fabio missed a couple of good chances again but at least he is getting into the positions to have chances and nobody else on our squad is doing that.

Big positive to see Boly on the left of defence where he is certainly at his best. But we just don’t have anyone suited to the right sided centre back role with Saiss and Kilman both needing to be on the left and Dendoncker better in midfield. Could do worse than give Hoever a chance in that position or gamble even more playing Lonwijk who looks good there for the U23s.

Next 6 games coming up are against West Ham, Fulham, Sheffield Utd, Burnley, Albion and Brighton. Hope to see us in the top half of the table after those games.

Relief to hear Rui seems to be ok

Thought Saiss looked poor tonight. And think Tam is right about us being narrower up front tonight and it made a difference, we did seem capable of moving the ball through the middle and the wing backs had some room. Positive performance for once and hopefully we continue that way next game.

If it wasn't for Arsenal gifting us three points I would be a lot more concerned for the run in but now we should be able to at least play with some freedom and quite happy to see us experiment a little bit with fringe players, especially RAN and Vitinha though it feels like our minds may already be made up, particularly with Vitinha given MGW came on tonight.

I think Vitinha and MGW are different players. Vitinha always looks more suited to playing from deep and that is where he has looked best for us. I'd like to see us give him a chance playing where Moutinho does.

Last night with the front three playing closer together, Neto was taking up more central positions a little deeper. That is where MGW wants to play and I think is why he came on. He looked quite good there in the short time he had and I think we should be giving him, Vitinha, Ait-Nouri and Hoever more game time between now and the end of the season. Probably Silva and Otasowie too.

Overall, I thought it was a good performance last night, but we are still firing blanks when it comes to scoring. I think Coady had the best chance with his header and it was good to see him spraying those cross filed balls again.

Jose was better, but as someone else said, he seemed better in the middle third than he was in and around their box. Another reason why I prefer Silva as our striker. He seems to get into the right places and with a goal or two, it should improve his confidence.

Boly mush better on his preferred left side, which highlights the problem we've had for a while now on the right. Saiss did ok, but if we're going to keep him, then midfield would be his best place. Hoever needs more game time and at 19 could be the answer, after all we did spend 8m getting him from Liverpool.

Neto was poor for the second game now and with a three week rest, maybe he'll be refreshed against West Ham.

Have to say that week by week VAR becomes more farcical and i don't understand why? Is it just plain and simple corruption?

posted on 16/3/21

Sadly, while the big 6 keep getting their way on reviews, or even non reviews then nothing will happen.
We have totally been shafted by VAR.

They have to review this farcical offside interpretation. What's wrong with the old rule? If it's offside, it's offside. Why wait to raise the flag?

----------------------------------------------------------------------

It’s because they can’t be certain that it’s offside until the VAR has reviewed it in slow motion with the lines across the pitch.

It’s not a difficult concept to grasp.

Yeah the play on rule for tight decisions makes perfect sense to me, it used to be so frustrating seeing a clear on side being blown for off due to a linesman's flag.

Have seen a few linesmen who seem afraid to raise the flag though, even when it seems clear.

posted on 16/3/21

The way the offside rule has been applied for a few years now is that a player standing in a offside position is not considered to be breaking the rules. It’s only when a player becomes active, ie plays the ball, that he is considered offside. So the linesman was quite correct to not raise the flag last night until Salah played the ball.

Do like the old Brian Clough quote though. ‘If a player isn’t interfering with the game, what’s he doing on the pitch?’

Quite a feat to have a player with a shorter name than Ojo in the side but Cardiff have just that with Ng

posted on 16/3/21

And Cloughie was quite right. All this crap about being active is bollox. Linemen and referees have been making mistakes for decades and that won't change. Even now VAR is not consistent with decisions and referees who look at the monitor don't always get it right.

VAR is good for goal line decisions on whether the ball crosses the line or not. However, VAR is destroying the game, so much so that they're re-thinking the handball rule inside the box.

Utter shambles imo.

I think Cloughie best quote, if I remember it right was:-

"We had a good side on paper. Unfortunately we played on grass."

Romain Saiss on the penalty not given last night

‘The goalkeeper lost the ball and after it’s like he’s playing rugby. I don’t know, maybe it’s because he’s been watching the six nations or if that’s normal, but he lost the ball then went straight into Nelson. It’s clearly a pen’.

No doubt. I assume VAR must have looked at it and decided not though somehow.

Mick's bubble has burst. He'll need a LOT of money and a full season to get that shower promoted.

Gone from being in the play offs a few weeks ago to possibly being nine points outside of them if results go to form tomorrow.

My favourite Brian Clough quote is when he said
"I wouldn't say I was the best manager in the business. But I was in the top one"

Reports that there is absolutely nothing wrong with Patricio and he's just a bit of a softie!

As we are into Brian Clough quotes, I remember him saying after a Wolves game when we had a Dougan, Richards and Wagstaffe forward line: ‘Everyone knows what Wolves are going to do. Stopping them is the problem’.

Rafa Mir had his night out at the Camp Nou on Monday as they lost 4-1 to Barcelona. Mir won and converted the penalty for Huesca’s goal. Mir complained after the game that it felt like Barca had 12 players on the field, ten plus Messi.

The top Spanish football paper, Marca, described Mir as the complete centre forward

posted on 17/3/21

I watched the Barca game and Mir did ok. He took the penalty well, but it was a sort one imo. He seemed to dive over their 'keeper. He'd be worth a shot at Wolves, but not sure he get the game time he's getting now. I'm sure Huesca will go down, so he may want to go to another lowly La Liga club and stay in Spain.

Ex Wolves youngster Donavan Wilson scores again and puts Sutton United 6 points clear in National League and with games in hand.

Come on United. Heading for League 2.
