Had my first oxford jab on friday at about 4pm. Started feeling weak before bed, woke up next morning with fever, headache and soreness all over. Same on sunday but less intense.

Still feel a bit odd, but basically 95% of the way to how i felt before the jab.

The fecking injection site is still achey aswell.

Luckily i'm retired.
But you raise an interesting point. Given that the virus hasn't delivered the millions of deaths that we were initially promised, then why the constant push for a vaccine for a germ that will not effect the vast majority (99%) of us?

Vaccines are more about safety in numbers than about protecting individuals. The more people who are vaccinated, the less the virus is able to spread through communities. If you don’t have a high percentage of the population vaccinated, the disease continues to find ways to spread. If it spreads too freely and mutates into a form against which the vaccines are not effective, you’ve got a problem again. I think the long-term view is that having as many people vaccinated as possible, not just the vulnerable, will suppress the virus over the next few years until it isn’t much of a threat. This won’t happen if you only vaccinate the most vulnerable.

As for the idea that it won’t affect most people, I thought this was well understood. The relatively small percentage of people whom it will affect badly is still a very large number - too large for health systems to cope with while trying to see to everything else they usually do. So, given that the society of which you are a part depends on that health service, it certainly does affect you.

Amazing how many selfish people there are. Two on here have quite clearly shown that they will only do what suits them and not others. s

I’m not sure I’d always call it selfishness, but I think there is a certain kind of parochialism that this pandemic has revealed in people. If you don’t get the illness and aren’t likely to die even if you do, it can be hard to see why your life has had to change so much because of it. But you have to be able to see that even small percentages are very, very big numbers when they are percentages of populations; you have to be able to see things on a societal, even a national, level rather than an individual one. If you think it’s just about looking after yourself, you’re bound to think the response has been exaggerated or even too buy into conspiracies.

I help others, seven days a week.
Luckily i have the time and the 'oldies' in my family need the help.
You're just doing what you always do, and failing as usual.

Fix the potholes. Don't try and improve things on a grander scale, just fix the potholes. Small mindedness. That's over 50% of the population

Thanks for a reasoned response
As with many, we live in a bubble. We've been taking Vit D, C and Zinc since before Christmas 2019 as i had a feeling 'something' was going to happen. As the facts regarding the vaccines change then so will my stance but for the moment i'll carry on as i am.
