in the end he is sat there with 3 league medals, 2 cup medals and a champions league so while we can sneer all we like he's sat o nthe bench like a champ
in short they need to pay us and so need to sell him to be able to. I'm sure they'd love us to write off thier debt and take him back.
the reality is he turns 29 in june and doesn't really suit the system right now.
At LW he won't be the run in behind type.
at LCM he an thiago don't go.
so I'd perfer the fee they owe us and go buy a younger man who is hungry to do something.
For £35m I'd take him. Don't see how he doesn't fit the system either. Firstly he would play in the position Keita, Ox, Jones and Shaqiri have shared this season, most attacking of the three midfielders. Obviously he's great at linking the attack but he also works hard and presses well. He also adds goals to the midfield and a long range threat which has been missing since he left.

He’s the Brazilian Bale now. They’ll probably have to loan him out and cover half his wages again.
yes, he would fit right in as an attacking midfielder and has at least 3-4 years at the top level given his style of play.
For what his wages are worth and his place in the team, probably best to not bother. Entering his 30's shortly like many other players, high wages and no guaranteed place in the team. £35m is a very good fee for a player of his quality, but maybe not worth everything that comes with him.
Id take a punt yeah. If we have learned anything this season its that we need more quality and depth. Salah mane firmino jota and coutinho is a pretty strong front 5 to be able rotate around. Its probably more in our price range too rather than these fantasy transfers like haaland and mbappe that are never going to happen.
He may be 29 soon but he knows the city, by and large the entire squad and the manager. It bodes well for him to settle quickly.
Not even a gamble. The lad is class.
And for that money, it’s not even a debate.
He’s also have a point to prove.

The idea he can't play alongside thiago is crazy.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Perfect type of player to play with Thiago.
Like Firmino he is in decline. Need to go for someone younger like Aouar or if we are feeling ambitious Grealish.
Explain please how he plays with thiago in a midfield in England.
Our game plan has been based on mane and salah playing a certain way and someone joining from midfield to really pin sides in.
Firmino dropping off and failing to lead the line hurts us. Nobody seems to be joining from midfield consistently.
I don't quite see how a midfield containing coutinho and thiago at 180k per week each really helps this.
If we have 35 mil to spend it should go on someone younger and more of a box to box Duracell bunny
Isn't Thiago injured all the time anyway?
I just get the feeling that Coutinho has had his best years, so I’d rather go for someone younger.

We have 60% plus possession in the vast majority of games. He comfortably plays alongside Thiago in a 3 as long as we have one sitting player. Against the better teams maybe it would he a risk, but lined up with close to a 4-2-4 away at city this season and held our own with ease. Coutinho defensive work and energy had always been underrated and he was playing some of his best football in a midfield 3 before he left. He could and would easily play alongside thiago
----------------------------------------------------------------------
are these the same games we couldn't score in but got walked though in the middle annd via long ball over the top? The games where sides sit in a low block and let us have it knowning we will cough one up?
Against any "better" team it'd be a recipe for disaster mate.
you are mixing yor drinks really. the first game v city, look at when and who they had before using it as an example. they won 20 odd in a row after that including hockeying us
thiago cant get about and add in a coutinho and you might as well go play in germany even bayern rarely tried this on on in a 4231.
coutinho would be LW and thiago at a no 6 type role and only against the lower sides.
so again if we want to drop mane and whatever fire ahead but I'd rather buy a yuonger man.

That's kind of the point isn't it? We didn't score in those games playing the way you say we play without a coutinho type. Being done by long balls over the top happens with or without coutinho. Its down to a high line with no pace and a lack of pressing, something which coutinho does very well.
Out of interest, in that first game, who did City have and not have. Outside of Torres starting it's pretty much their strongest team ffs.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
so you are going to drop mane for countho?
Lets be clear, I've actually looked how bayern used them and it wasn't in midifeld coutinho was wide left.
If you look back at the city game we actually played 4231 with mane at LW and henderson and wijnaludm as cover for gomez and matip at the back
so again no thiago, and you'd have to drop mane for coutinho.
if you actuall look back
city 3 porto 1
west ham 1 city 1
marseille 0 city 3
sheff utd 0 city 1
city 3 olympiakos 0
LFC 1 city 1
spurs 2 city 0
Its not exactly great city form over the CL and internationals. It was only after this time that city went on thier run.
You are also missing the point.
you want coutinho shooting for 30 yards to beat the low block or what? The low bock of 10 men back means theres no space to playpasses in and you need guys running behind etc.

Bayern using him coming off the left doesn't mean that's his best position and that's where he would play in the Liverpool side, he would strictly be a No.10 in this side.
Although, I think there would be potentially better options for his wages and are probably a fair few years younger, which the squad would benefit from right about now.
