Am going to sound abit thick

But the likes of arsenal and spurs, who are already miles behind the best side, are going to be bottom of the league, and no chance of winning after just a few games. Where is the interest for the fans ??

And most seasons, there would only be two, or three going for the title, nearly half the season would be dead rubbers.

Am I missing something ?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not missing anything. It'll be full of dead rubbers. Can see it being a disaster. In a way I hope it does happen and just feck the big 6 off.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This.

Honeslty think it will be a disaster.

Short term it might work, but over time if you are a top player being unable to play for your country or in any other continental competing why would you do it.

And before anyone says money there will still be plenty of it in the premiership and European competitions.

Looking at it from the perspective of a leeds fan and thinking about kelvin phillips.

This to me almost guarantees he won't go anywhere now, guy loves playing for England and it means the world to him, I doubt he will throw that away when he will earn a crap tonne of money anyway playing for us.

And clubs not in the "top 6" are full of great players like that who want to represent their country.

Also, dont know about anyone else, but I'd these guys leave id make a cheeky offer to celtix and rangers to come on down south...

That’s exactly the problem when you take away relegation. A third of the way through the season a lot of game become meaningless.

In the US they have mitigated this by creating a huge play off competition at the end of the NFL season so most sides still have a chance of qualifying towards the end.

Not something I am interested in at all.

What will happen next though? I’m concerned that it all seems a bit easy to block at the moment. The major leagues have all said they will kick the clubs out if they agree to this which is not part of their plan. Will leave them with less money than they have now. The owners of the clubs must have known this is what would happen. And if they knew it would be this easy to block it would never have got this far. Unless there’s a follow up move. They must have something planned beyond what we know so dar

The world has gone mad in the last year and this tops it off.

If the so called big 6 had already broken away we would be in a champions league position.
If it happens we can always have friendly matches pre season against Man U and Liverpool and let the top 2 Scottish Premier league sides be promoted to the new British Premier league and scrap the league Cup and have a British FA Cup with teams from Scotland in the draw.

To be fair, scrapping the league cups in Scotland and England for a new "Great Britain Cup" would be an amazing idea.

Could even involve top leagues in NI and Wales.

Have a system where the first and second round are made up of league 1 and 2, the Scottish championship and lower the NI and Welsh Premier leagues and then the 2 premierships come along in the third round.

Would be cool going to places like Hearts and Linfield let alone drawing rangers or celtic

The so called Big 6 can easily be replaced. The likes of Sunderland Shef Wed Nottingham Forest Derby Celtic and Rangers could create just as much rivalry and excitement.

Those 6 would have to earn their place like everyone else through the normal promotion route but I actually think it would be OK if those greedy teams jump ship. Let them go and I reckon in a few years they will be begging to return.

They can come back but starting in the 8th division of the non league pyramid. So you will get Man utd playing Ashton U Lyne and Chelsea playing Canvey Island.

I just don't see how its sustainable for them long term.

European football will still happen.

If you took 6 clubs above us out the league we just qualified for the champions league.

So what if we didn't get to play against a couple of clubs from either Spain or Italy.

Still loads of great teams to play.

Whereas this league is just the same teams every year and a bunch of players who just chucked away their international futures.

If you were at one of the other 24 clubs would you want to move to this league when the teams in Germany and the likes of Paris SG are loaded and you could just play for them and still represent your country?

Yeah I agree that it won’t work. Too many flaws in the plan.

So it sounds more like a move to create leverage with the negotiation for the new format of the ironically named Champions League.

What’s worrying about that is I already hated the Champions League proposals and these clubs clearly don’t think they went far enough.

How much would fans love a return to the old 2 legged straight knock out, no seeds format. And how far do the clubs making decision want to get away from that

Have to see I agree with every one of the comments in this post.

Saw (via foxestalk) that someone on a Leeds forum had put a league table with these teams kicked out - we (Leicester) would be top and Leeds fourth - I say get rid of them!

posted on 18/4/21

Let’s be honest....it will come down to the players.

Ironically, they hold the last word as they are the ones required to kick the ball.

Be nice if they got kicked out of the premier league

Definitely think this is a negotiating position.

The top teams are run as businesses, that happen to support a sports team. And all businesses want a reliable and steady stream of income. The likes of Man Utd, Man City, Liverpool, Spurs, Chelsea and Arsenal are - to all extent and purposes - free of worry about relegation already, given the money they have.

But this pesky business of actually having to qualify for the CL - and the possibility that they may miss out on the money-pot some seasons - is what they want to change.

They're looking for more assurances that they'll get to compete in the CL every season and, I suspect, are using all the talk of the European Super League as leverage in those talks.

Don't see how its worked as a negotiating position though.

Fifa, uefa and the FA have gone nuclear with their response and basically told them do this and its game over for you.

And yeah these are big clubs, but the whole game of football is bigger than these 12 teams.

Yeah these teams have power, thats not in doubt.

But the collective power of the whole of football is against them and they won't win this in the long run.

Does this mean we are in a Champions league Spot right now?

posted on 18/4/21

Basic question .... where these clubs gonna get their monies?? TV ...so where is the shock reaction from Sky? Amazon? Nothing....nada..zilch.... they involved in it.

posted on 18/4/21

And where are the comments from the players, the players unions and representatives?? They can stop this. Just say no. They’ve all got contracts to play in the EPL...the clubs are breaking the contracts. Be interesting to see if those same players just see the £ signs

posted on 19/4/21

This looks pretty serious now and not a negotiating tactic so basically if we finish at least 10th we will qualify for the Champions League next season.

Bayern Munich and PSG will still be in it so still an attractive product that should maintain a healthy revenue stream from Champions league broadcasting.

The Premier league must kick the traitor teams out and should still have a huge worldwide TV audience and maintain it's generous TV income so off you trot you greedy bar stewards you will not be missed.

posted on 19/4/21

Actually, there is a very simple way to stop this... the Govt to refuse to issue safety certificates for any game taking place outside the remit of the FA

End of.
