Here you go Kebab. Moving to the right while leaning to the left doesn't do your argument any favours though. It's not a natural movement and it's still clearly deliberate.

that clearly shows he holds his arm there waiting for the ball to hit it. would be a pen any year.
All I can say is I’m glad we have referees with 20+ years of experience and knowledge of the actual laws of the game than a bunch of bloke off a forum who by the content of their descriptions don’t even know the laws of the game they love .
It is an offence if a player:
deliberately touches the ball with their hand/arm, including moving the hand/arm towards the ball

You do realise this is a site for debate don't you?
You see it differently to others (& vice versa) ..... shock, horror.. !
Chill. It's sunny here in Leeds today and i've finally got a view of ER and Armley prison out of the same window, while I work. Carlsberg don't do views, but if they did .............
Well, refs with 20+ years experience are fuq-ing things up left, right, and centre, week in, week out. That's not my opinion. That's the opinion of actual players past and present. I value and rate their view very highly.
And I think it was Balbuena who got sent off over the weekend while clearing the ball and Chillwell being in his path. Refs need to learn the laws of physics. The player did his job and kicked a ball clear. Chillwell's run into his path was Chillwell's decision. Garbage decision yet again.

Maybe if you think you could do a better job then you should consider a change of career paths? You could be the exact boost that refereeing in this country needs!
That’s a good law - now it’s down to interpretation and applying it. Imo there’s no movement towards the ball and it’s accidental. Played at normal speed he’s little chance of avoiding contact nor does he have to move it away as his upper limb is in a natural position by his side.

Not sure that's a fair argument, refs are professional nowadays and paid very handsomely for Premier League matches, I doubt we have many professional refs on this form.
Ignoring this particular argument and responding to the OP as well as yourself, given Refs now make their living out of carrying out the job I think they and their lame brained associates short change the paying public with poor and inconsistent decisions this and every season furthermore I have no doubt the quality of officiating won't improve in time for next season either.

The attitude in this comment is the exact reason why the pool of referees stagnate. Want a better standard of refereeing? Contribute to an environment where people feel comfortable wanting to become a referee.
Abuse of referees is institutionalized in the sport, so plenty of people who would be good referees don't. Therefore, you end up with a summit of referees who are thick skinned to both abuse and criticism.
On the topic of the Shaw decision, its clearly not a handball. His arm is by his side, and it doesn't move towards it (no matter how skewed an angle you try to show me). You're right. You don't need to be a qualified referee to see that.

I'm concerned that you believe its wrong to convey to referees that a poor performance is unacceptable, surely you absolutely need to criticise them after a poor performance for them to learn from experience. That's like sacking a poor performing employee without prior warning that what they're currently doing is unacceptable

its a very tough job and i know i couldn't do it. but i haven't been trained for 20 years to do it.
what i could do is look at a tv screen and see a ball hit a defenders arm stopping a scoring chance.
the only way his arm looks like it's in a natural position would be if it was broken and in a cast.
there must be at least a couple of posters here that have a ref as a relative.
thankless task......reffs seem to be becoming lazy as submissively they know var is there to help but var has really been no help as most decisions are subjective or the rule changes have been baffling to say the least, yet more changes yet again next season.
Balbuena's stupid red card overturned. Quite rightly.
Hopefully that ref brushes up on football and physics
before his next outing.
