It may just be a case of getting our defence back and one or two quality additions in order to get back to the top level. Maybe not 99 points again but still very much up there.

Liverpool had about 18 months of good form and suddenly their fans think they’re a super club again or something. Squeaking into top 4. Klopp did a great job but the best players are past it now, he’ll have to regenerate the squad to get back to top levels so I think it’s fair to say his time at ‘pool has peaked. Based on what’s been won in the modern era (PL era) it’s fair to say Chelsea and Man City are now bigger clubs than Liverpool, certainly based on GBs criteria of comparing Leicester to Spurs.

People tend to confuse the words “success” and “big” when it comes to football.
Leicester are currently a more successful club than Spurs. But they not as big a club as Spurs.

Liverpool, going into the last day of the season, are in a battle for 3rd/4th.
Making your judgement based off points total is a strange way to look at it, considering the very obvious fact that points totals change every single season.
What doesn’t change however is league position. 1st last season and every season before that wins you the title. 2nd last season and every season before that means you’re runners up. And so on and so on.
If it was judged on a points comparison from one season to the next well, you’re going to lose the argument all day long, because you’re on very shaky ground...
Oh and for the record Mellor, seeing as you are referencing points totals, and ascribing importance to that, you’d do well to get those totals correct.
City finished 18 points behind Liverpool, not 19.
That 4-0 thrashing at the Etihad put paid to any chance of you breaking our points records.

Let’s put this another way, for Mellor to hopefully understand.
Liverpool are currently 33 points worse off this season than they attained last season. The best they can hope for is to finish this season 30 points worse off than last season.
City, in defending their title of 2018-19, finished the 2019-20 season 17 points worse off than what they attained the previous season.
So which defence of the title, based on this “spin” regarding points total, is worse?
Mellor hasn’t got a clue just how ridiculous his comments are.
