Oh and for the record Mellor, seeing as you are referencing points totals, and ascribing importance to that, you’d do well to get those totals correct.

City finished 18 points behind Liverpool, not 19.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So still 1 more than the 17 we are currently behind the champions. Thanks mate

Are you 15 points ahead of the team behind you at the moment as it's all about points?

Let’s put this another way, for Mellor to hopefully understand.

Liverpool are currently 33 points worse off this season than they attained last season. The best they can hope for is to finish this season 30 points worse off than last season.

City, in defending their title of 2018-19, finished the 2019-20 season 17 points worse off than what they attained the previous season.

So which defence of the title, based on this “spin” regarding points total, is worse?

Mellor hasn’t got a clue just how ridiculous his comments are.

Theres not going to be any reasoning with you as it doesnt suit the narrative that suits your side, city.

Personally i find your way of looking at it very bizarre. As most people in football say, it doesnt matter what happened last season, it counts for very little. So your argument that we will be 30 points down personally I really dont give a bakers fack about. Lets say we pipped you to the title this year with a tally of 86, would that make us cr@p chsmpions as wed be 13 points dowm on last season? Again really dont see the relevance.

Whats important to me is where we are in relation to the champions, and as it stands we are 17 points behind and I'll take some comfort in knowing that you guys overturned a bigger deficit this season.

Id also point out that this whole thing was a retort from me to a stupid point made by someone else that city dont crumble when defending titles, a clear dig at us when in actual fact you have had the chance to defend a premier league title 4 times and done it once.

posted on 22/5/21

By 'crumbling' I assume he meant you were top of the table in December yet now you're sweating on results to just make top 4.

He may very well have mate. No issue with him saying we crumbled, we did, my issue was that he stated city dont crumble ever.

posted on 22/5/21

I may be wrong but I don't think we've ever been top of the table at some stage but failed to win the league in recent times.

posted on 22/5/21

What does that prove. You are slightly less crumbly than us. If we are the rich tea you are the hobknob. Cmon mate grasping here.

posted on 22/5/21

It means once we top the table, we stay there.

Not too difficult to grasp.

Ok, you hold onto that one pal. I'll stick with the 25% success rate at defending your title but whatever helps you sleep at night.

posted on 22/5/21

I'm happy with 25%, better than 0% or not having won the title in the first place.

That isn’t my argument. I said it right in the post that you replied to. It’s a spin on your argument to show how shaky your argument is. You saying you find it bizarre is exactly my point - it is bizarre.

My first comment regarding this - my first reply to you - was about showing just how difficult it has proved to defend a title, considering the low number of times it has happened during the last 30 years. In addition to this, the number of clubs who have then gone on to win it a third time in succession is even fewer.

In case you haven’t realised it - I’m not having a dig at Liverpool, or any team, who has failed to successfully defend their title. I think your intent is actually to do the same

I know the various big club debates are generally wind ups but they do make me laugh.

The answer to the question is very simple. Leicester are currently more successful than Spurs but Spurs have a far larger fanbase and are therefore a bigger club.

Those struggling with this should think of it in terms of cities. If I asked is Bristol bigger than New York most folk wouldn't have any difficulty in answering no.

Normally its winning things that attracts fans and grows a clubs support which is why Spurs are so unusual and unique. A team that has a huge worldwide support yet wins naff all.

Just imagine how big we could become if we started winnings things? Or maybe Spurs failures are what alot of the fans secretly like, perhaps we are addicted to the pain?

Pawl...is it a "bit" of a wind up. But u gotta laugh right...lifes to short....as some would say "innit" !!!

Fair enough mate.

I think I if we had just "one" CB fit from Gomez..Matip and VVD...then we may have beaten City to the title.

Allison was massively affected by the defensive changes imo and literally gifted City 3 points at Anfield..I think he did the same to Leicester too at Anfield.

posted on 23/5/21

Two those two results i mentioned if we won them and assuming we beat palace would have liverpool on 75 points and city on 80.

And that's only the 2 games allison literally passed the ball to.the opposition!

Fabinho didn't get a yellow card for the penalty (unlike Dias) so he should have seen red for the later foul on Foden for which he did get booked.

Salah dived for your penalty, even your most ardent fans admitted that.

So take away Allisons mistakes but add the correct refereeing decisions and it would have been 2-0 to City.

As I'm not Hafi, I'll stick to what actually happened which was a 4-1 win for City.

Sorry mate but this is just silly. We are 17 points behind them. Theres no way we claw that back even if 1 of them is fit. The games would have still caught up with us. Maybe we would have had a few more points but 18 more, no chance.

As others have pointed out on other threads, the defence has killed us but the chances we have squandered in games has also cost us massively. That comes down to the front players. Having 1 of gomez matip or vvd fit doesnt change that.

Liverpool had about 18 months of good form and suddenly their fans think they’re a super club again or something. Squeaking into top 4. Klopp did a great job but the best players are past it now, he’ll have to regenerate the squad to get back to top levels so I think it’s fair to say his time at ‘pool has peaked. Based on what’s been won in the modern era (PL era) it’s fair to say Chelsea and Man City are now bigger clubs than Liverpool, certainly based on GBs criteria of comparing Leicester to Spurs.
