Shaw was always willing to make attacking moves, his quality of end product was lacking. AWB seems to scared to even try.

I think AWB has improved the attacking side of his game over this season, and if Sancho frightens defenders more than Greenwood, it creates pockets of space and opportunity that can make AWB more productive.
——————————-
AWB already finds lots of pockets of space. Some teams seem to ignore him even if he is in a dangerous area, and usually he does feck all with it.
I think he doesn’t have the mentality to be at a top club. He doesn’t have the confidence to put a first time cross in, or get to the byline when there is space. I don’t think this can be coached.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We'll see. I think we've seen considerable improvement in AWB in the way he receives the ball in tight spaces when we're playing out from the back, and (if not dramatic improvements in output) an increasing confidence in the final third. It can take a player some time to adapt to the demands of playing for a club of United's size (and some succeed, others fail) but I'd judge a new and still developing player's potential more by their best moments than their worst. I'm open minded about him.
I do think playing consistently with a high quality winger would make a difference though. Shaw has many more hours of experience partnering with Rashford, Martial and Pogba, while AWB has probably had less consistency of right-wing partner and has tended to play with forwards who are more comfortable on the right or Greenwood, who is still learning the game.

If we neglect the defensive mid and cb positions in favour of sancho we won’t finish top. What happens also do Greenwood when sancho comes? And why spend 40m on Amad if he will barely start. Seems terrible planning to me
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What if Greenwood is being groomed to switch to CF? What if we follow your prescription and we have our usual injury crisis and our best options are James (unlikely to ever reach the required standard) and Amad (not ready to carry our attack yet)? What if Rashford is out of form or playing through injury and we can't bench him? If this comes to pass, I take it you won't complain about lack of strength in depth in attack, because the club will have acted in accordance with your views.
That said, I do agree that we also need at least one signing that will address our defensive rigour. If we can't sign three players who immediately strengthen the first XI, I'd have thought Sancho + a DM would be possible and sensible.

And our DM options shouldn’t be Declan Rice or noone. We have loads of scouts all over the world, if the best option they can come up with is Declan freaking Rice, then they should all find different jobs.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Surely that's the point. I agree that a defensive midfielder ought to be top priority, but if we've done our homework properly, we should be able to upgrade in that position without breaking the bank, and therefore not leave ourselves with an "either DM or Sancho" choice.
Yes, that is how a sensible club should go about their business, but United don’t do sensible and Ed cannot do two things at once. We generally chase our top priority till the last day of the window, end up massively over paying for him or miss out completely. Then do a mad dash to fill the gaps in the squad with whoever is available at the time, these buys usually turn out to be duds.
So I have no confidence we will get a top CB or a DM because we are not prioritizing these positions. Hopefully we will get sancho transfer completed early and move onto other priorities. If sancho saga drags onto the last week, we are be screwed IMO.
Signing Sancho will absolutely have a bearing on midfield or defensive signings we make. Have you seen how the club operates? Do you think we are capable of making three decent signing for three different positions this summer? Have we ever made three decent signings in one window?
--------------------------------------------
The people responsible for recruitment and squad building at the club being incompetent isn't my fault. Just because we might make a mess of things doesn't mean we shouldn't sign Sancho.
The point was we should have the funds to add to those three positions this summer given there'll be a few departures which should bring in some money and lower the wage bill but if we're seriously considering somebody like Rice then quite frankly I'd rather we sign Sancho, forget about midfield altogether and give Garner the chance to establish himself.
On the wider point about priorities, I think we need to be partly guided by what deals are possible this summer (and what opportunities will pass us by if we don't act). If we significantly strengthen in any of the key positions, that will have knock on effects that strengthen other parts of the team. I'm just about of the opinion that a world class DM might be the most transformative addition, but if there isn't a world class DM available to us, maybe it's not the place to spend money. Or if we can upgrade that position cheaply, why wouldn't we also bring in Sancho?

So many people ignore this, or just simply don’t understand.
If we were to turn down the chance at signing Sancho we'll be regretting it for years, even more so if he ends up signing for one of our rivals.
I don't think we will turn down the chance though this summer thankfully as everything seems to point to him being Ole's priority and rightly so.

I don’t disagree with you, sancho will be a good signing for us.Issue is we chase the marquee signing all summer and neglect the biggest weaknesses in the squad every freaking time. I can only see this happening again.
It really shouldn’t be hard improve upon McFred and Lindelof.

The noises coming from Murtough after he got promoted were encouraging in this respect. Supposedly he's determined to make decisions quickly: not just complete signings early, but be willing to figure it out and walk away quickly when the deal can't be done. We'll see whether we live up to that aspiration.
