LC, you're back 😊 hope you had a lovely holiday 🌞
The very best of luck in our final
I will do that final tonight
Europa League Final
Watford v Brentford
What a turnaround for these two teams, fighting for a European trophy instead of a relegation battle..
Very close to call this one, both of similar standards, both with strngths and weknesses that I can see, good tactics by both with set ups to suit their players and styles.
With equal share of possession both took advantage by scoring quite early, Openda after some nice work by Sugawara down the right put Brentford in front on 11 mins, but new signing Evanilson looking to make an early impression equalised soon after nodding home from a lovely cross in from Enciso. End to end stuff but good goalkeeping and some wayward shooting they went in level.
Second half much alike, neither really dominating and having some nice spells of play, however it was Brentford who took the lead again their star man Szobozslai firing in a free kick which Ito met after leaping above the Watford defence and powering home a lovely header. Subs were made and Guilherme made a sudden impact, his fresh legs allowed him to make a perfect run in behind the defence to meet an Andre through ball, he rounded the keeper and slotted home for 2 - 2. Thius was highly entertaining as both went for it but to no avail and sudden death beckoned.
A bit more cagey in ET, boith playing a bit deeper as to not lose a vital goal, looking like both were going to settle for penalties. Which is how it ended as the ref blew and the game was to be decided on pens..
With neither expecting Pens it was done by straws as the 5 from each team came out..
Brentfor win the toss
Gimenez up first......... 1 - 0 a well taken penalty
Leonardo for Watford........ 1 - 1 high into the roof of the net
Szoboszlai............ corner sending the keeper the wrong way 2 - 1
Guilherme.. 2 - 2 straight down the middle
