GROUP D
(game 3)
Norwich City 0-2 Queens Park Rangers
Goal Scorers: Matri(Marin), Taarabt FK
Report: QPR put themselves in a strong position to go through to the next round of the tournament with a comfortable win over Norwich City. The first goal game after a mazy run by Marko Marin before the striker crossed in for Matri to head home. In the second half, substitute Taarabt hit a trademark free kick past the keeper to round off an easy 2 goal win.
Swansea City 2-2 Wigan Athletic
Goal Scorers: Klose(Pandev), Balotelli(Kranjcar); Kuyt, Fabiano(Zhirkov)
Report: The top two in Group E went head to head with two new managers looking to take their team into the next round. The game started brightly with Swansea looking to get on top early with Balotelli trying his luck with a long range effort that flew just wide. Wigan showed attacking intent too with Pirlo playing a great ball into Luis Fabiano who beat the offside trap but Diego Alves came out quickly to dive on the ball. The keeper was busy again as he continued his fine form from last season with Stoke to deny Kuyt a goal from close range. Wigan were started to get on top but the first goal went the other way, Pjanic winning the ball and sending Pandev away down the wing, he played in a great all for Klose who did what he does best to put Swansea infront. The goal didnt change the game though as Wigan continued to control play in the middle, Stankovic found Zhikov and he cut past a challenge but then Shawcross made a great tackle to deny the russian. Swansea were holding strong at the back and almost got a second when Iraola brought it forward and fired in a thunderous shot that Butt turned over. Just before the break Wigan pulled level after a scramble in the area, Kuyt prodding in. The second half was just as lively, Swansea starting well again, Muntari playing a great ball through for Klose but Luisao did well to get a last ditch takle in. Wigan were dangerous though and within 10 minutes of the half theyd put themselves infrotnt. Zhirkov linking well with Navarro down the left to cross in for Fabiano to make it 2-1. Wigan started to make changes and it put Swansea on top with sub Pablo Hernandez running at the defender and forcing a good save from Butt. They continued to put pressure on and in the dying stages when Kranjcar found Balotelli who turned his man and smashed a shot past the keeper to level the game. Swansea advance while Wigan just miss out on best third place.
