Is Saka underrated by non-Arsenal fans?

" do think if he played for United or Liverpool, people would rate him a lot higher"

Not even our fans rate most of our players

Saka is a great talent. I was relieved when he was injured when we beat you at the Emirates because without him you can look toothless.

He probably does need to have "that game" which properly announces him on to the scene. I don't mean against Sheff United but like Foden did at Anfield against our makeshift backline.

As an Arsenal fan myself I say he's rated just right. Yes he's got huge potential as for example a Rashford had at 18. But he got a very long way to go and needs the right coach to develop. Rashford basically half-wasted his years under Mourinho, so who's to say Saka won't suffer the same fate.
I also say he's rated just right because forwards like Mbappe, Balloteli (!!!), Robben were further ahead of the curve and more complete at 18 than Saka is (yes, unfortunately injuries at young age don't help as Robben, Wilshire, Pato etc. can agree...)

He's a very decent young player but his stats are not hugely impressive. 5 league goals this season?

I think Lingard got 9 and he played half a season at WHU.

For me Lingard with his form and his experience made more sense for the England squad than Saka, the latter being a real prospect for the future though.

Saka is immense

Saka isn't the problem with this England side. The problem is that we've picked four right backs and two crocks because the manager's scared to leave anyone out.

Walker will play RCB in a back 5.

Him picking 4 “RBs” and Coady suggests we’ll be boring the other teams to death this summer

Yeah, 'championship level player' would be the most common description if he was a United player.

Don’t really get the criticism for the four RBs. I think it’s a completely fair decision to be taking all three TAA, James and Walker as default, they are three very talented players, who have experience winning trophies and cover multiple positions. Why wouldn’t you want them in an international finals squad? TAA and James will cover midfield, I’m fine with that.

Trippier could have missed out, but like basically every international manager Southgate does have his subjective favourites, so I have some leeway for this, I don’t think he went overboard as it’s probably just him, Coady and Mings who fit this definition, the latter two won’t play. Even then Trippier is also someone who has been in excellent form for club and has just come off winning a trophy.

If we don’t do well I doubt I’ll be looking back at any or the 7 players Southgate dropped from the provisional squad and thinking they would have made the difference.

Saka isn't a highlights reel player. By far his most impressive attribute is his intelligence. Youtube comps do little for showing his positional awareness, decision making and off-the-ball work.

He will never, ever be properly rated by rival fans unless they watch him play for England.

can only talk for myself and i raved about him soon as i saw him, i think it was europa league game. Reminded me of Sterling because positionally etc he was great for such a young kid. Wasnt surprised he filled in at wingback so well etc.

He will end up being the black James Milner.

Looks a great prospect

I think the fact Lingard didnt get in after doing just about everything possible has rubbed people the wrong way and Saka is the most obvious one that got in instead

Developing nicely at a midtable club where he's guaranteed minutes. City bound in a couple of years I reckon.

Foden and Diaz been surrounded by quality, and have played well for teams that have played well.

Saka has been surrounded by dross and played well in a dis functioning mess of a side.

That’s the difference.

Reminds me of Cantwell from Norwich the season before where he stood out in a poor side.

This.

The Euros are a great oppurtunity for him to make a mark.

It's recency bias. If you'd picked the squad at Christmas Saka would be a shoo-in and Lingard would've been laughed at.
