In all seriousness it always hits home when something unexpected like that unfolds. My Mrs's brother died when he was 15 of SDS in his sleep. It could happen to any one of us. There's a lot more awareness around the condition now with the correct equipment on standby by wherever you are, public transport, schools etc. He's obviously got an undiagnosed condition that he didn't know about. It looks like he's been lucky. Unfortunately alot of people are not as fortunate.
It certainly sobered me up.

I would imagine international footballers get regular medical checks, being multi million pound assets their clubs would be doing this as a matter of course.

Now if THAT is true...is it?....then COVID could certainly have had an effect. Effects on heart and brain have been documented.
But I agree that thorough annual medical checkups should be mandatory for top class footballers.

Clubs do heart checks every year and do strenuous tests to force show any minor issues.
Clubs are not at fault, they’re doing their best to detect issues.
