So with all the rumours bouncing around and knowing what a let down our transfer windows normally are, is there anyone in this group who would say that the following starting 11 is a total disaster? Disappointing maybe but would we that weak? BTW I accept that Jonny and Neo are not available for some time yet.
Ruddy

Semedo Mosquera Boly Jonny

Traore Vitinha Neves Neto

Jimenez Silva

It isn't a total disaster but it depends what you are using as our base level.

For me our base level is seventh so in that regard then we are behind if that is our starting eleven.

If Raul, Jonny and Neto come back from injury as the same players they were before their injuries then just having them in the team puts us in the top half of the Premier League.

Patricio
Boly, Coady, Kilman
Semedo, Neves, Dendoncker, Jonny
Traore, Jimenez, Neto

That’s a team we know can finish in the top half cause it’s as strong as the team in 2018/19 that already did.

The objective to me in the window this summer is exactly the same as I said it was a year ago. To replace anyone that leaves with someone better, and to build a squad not just a first 11. We didn’t build the squad a year ago and therefore we just weren’t able to cope with the injuries we had.

Whether we play 343 or 4231 or whatever is irrelevant. But having a squad of premier league players and then playing a formation that suits the players we have, is vital.

I really can't see the point of trying to name a good starting eleven until we know who's in and who's leaving. We can speculate all we want and with regards to Jimenez, I doubt he'll be the player he was. He will have to get over the physiological effect, plus he may be one more collision away from ending his career.

I really can't see the point in trying to speculate on the return of Raul Jimenez, and whether or not he can get over the "physiological"effects of his injury.

Does he make a decision to end his career? Or does he risk having a collision and end his career that way?

When we know the answer to these connundrums we can decide whether to include him in our best starting eleven.

Year after year the same comments from wolfie. What’s the point in predicting the team, what’s the point in predicting how well we will do.

Year after year what else does he do? Run a prediction competition

I didn't predict the starting 11 and certainly didn't advocate that it would be our best starting 11. The point I was making - which seems to have gone straight over wolfie's head - was that if we don't make any more signings and Patricio goes to Roma, knowing that Lage's preferred setup is 4.4.2, would we hold our own with what we have. In my opinion we would. Unlike Mr doom and gloom I think Raul will come back as strong as ever and I also think that Ruddy is good enough to be first choice keeper. Vitinha and Silva will only improve so in my humble opinion, that starting 11 would be more than good enough to maintain a mid table spot.

Raul will be fine. Once he has a couple of friendlies under the belt he’ll be back in the groove

That's us out then.
Good to see Dendoncker get 40 seconds on the pitch before the final whistle

Good second half to watch. Portugal threw everything at them but it wasn’t to be. Thought Felix looked good. Guess it might be him and Fabio up front at the next euros

Thought Jota looked like he was in one of those spells where nothing really works for him. Liverpool fans have only really seen him in a purple patch, then he was injured a lot.

I've not known a player for us who could go through such big feast or famine spells. He is such a good player when on form. He still puts himself about and never hides when he is out of form, but he would be world class if he could sort out those dips.

Interesting point you're making Gem, would depend largely on how Lage gets them playing but I think that side could hold its own. I do think there will be changes though, comings and goings. I hope we get better quality and more depth and don't repeat what we did last summer. Everything I've heard from the club indicates that they recognise that the balance wasn't right last season and they want to address that. Hopefully the pool of development players that we have out on loan all over the place can start to be turned in to incoming transfer fees to help fund first team development. That way we don't have to sell our best players to fund incomings though I do think one or two first teamers will move if the right bid comes in.

That's very true, but for me his troughs were too deep and too long.
We will see this next season

Now that Portugal are out of the euros, the transfer of Patricio to Roma and Sa to Wolves should now move to a completion. Despite plenty of stories contradicting that story it still seems the likely outcome

There's a slight difference between predicting a Wolves side, when you don't know who will be at the club and predicting a result between teams who you know will be playing each other.

Both my comp and Penshawdaves' attract poster wiling to have a little fun and it takes up a lot of time running it. You should try entering one..oh wait, you might get a result wrong. Can't have that, can we.

A prediction is what someone thinks will happen. A prediction is a statement about the future. It’s a guess, sometimes based on facts and evidence, but not always.

Nuno being linked with Fenerbache. Could he be the latest manager to turn down Spurs?

But you don't know who will be selected to play in the teams? So, no difference at all really?

Ooooh Matron. Or maybe teacher, as that was one of your 'handles' a while back.

Nuno has evidently turned down Spurs. Who will they turn to next? Matt Hancock?
