Someone reckons Doherty has been put up for sale at Spurs.

How many times have I heard or read that players go out on loan for first team experience? We have players at Grasshoppers 'getting experience', but how many will make it into the first team squad? We have Sa, Ruddy and Sondergaard in the first team. Even Moulden is in Spain.

If we are to progress further, then it's experienced players that will get us challenging the top six. I can only see these loan players being sold on for a profit, rather than challenging for a squad place.

Isn't that the point with a lot of them. This isn't a new thing. Every team in the land buys prospects.

You kept saying the Mir signing made no sense at the time but it turns out it was a brilliant move.

how many keepers do you think we need in the squad?

Sa numero uno
Ruddy - bench and cups
Sondergaard - U23's
Moulden - Academy level? U18's?

Sarkic I reckon would have been bench, but no-one expected Ruddy to sign an extension so a year in the championship makes more sense for his development than not playing

oh and as Cinci says regards Mir - that £1m investment could be a bit of a golden goose no?

Nah, what is done is done. With us likely going to a back four as well it would be even less worthwhile. Would I have swapped him for Semedo last season? YES YES YES!

posted on 21/7/21

yeah I get that

I think if Lage likes this high press, and a bit of possession footy then the pace of Semedo and Nouri will be really vital to that working, especially as Neto & Trincao like to come inside. that's my biggest concern though.. inside forwards rather than out and out wingers, if we play them and a #10/SS do they not take each others space?

posted on 21/7/21

Time will tell how it works but given how last year we would have been begging to see two players getting in each others way in the final third i will take it

What was the Lage formation in Portugal anyway?

4-4-2 OR 4-2-3-1?

Wolves still in conversation with Arsenal evidently about Neves. We won’t budge from an asking price of £35m and Arsenal aren’t agreeing to pay that. Although if they get top dollar for Xhaka that might change. Much of the media now saying though that Neves is more likely to end up at Man Utd who will pay the asking price and Bruno Fernandes has been quoted as saying he would love Utd sign him.

Personally I’d like him to stay where he is but a sale is beginning to look on the cards

Does look like Neves will be going. No problem with that, he has served us great but a little surprised the fee is only 35 million. Last season did us no favours did it.

Seferovic linked today as well

Saturday's game against Real Betis should see something more like a first team starting.

Sa
Semedo Mosquera Boly Marcal
Trincao Moutinho Neves Ait-Nouri
Silva Jimenez

Surely we cannot sell Neves without first strengthening that area, would prefer him to stay and see how Lage plays him but as with Jota good luck if he goes, and 35 million on low side

posted on 21/7/21

Talk seems to be that Palinha is going to replace him if he goes. Not sure I am convinced by that as I can't imagine a player like Palinha is just sat around on standby just incase we sell Neves

Should see a decent side for 45 mins you would think.

This was the thinking behind Giles going to Cardiff. We wanted to loan him to a team that likes a lot of crosses. Mick was that man.

He had another assist today

Only Traore and Coady not with the squad in Spain. Even Podence is there so presumably ready to play
