When did the word woke become a thing? It’s so cringey.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It was used by Americans 1st i think, to show that you are aware of social issues etc and now it's been flipped by various media outlets in the uk to be the worst thing in the world...ignorance is bliss for many.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
A bit like how they have also flipped the word 'liberal' to be an insult.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yep, same tactic that has been used for decades.
Seems that anyone that isn’t a bigot is woke now.
Always found the term snowflake cringey as well. Though there’s a beautiful irony that the people that use the term the most are the biggest snowflakes on the planet.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
The first time I remember "woke" becoming a thing was after 9/11 and the conspiracy theories surrounding it, People "woke up" to the conspiracy of political control, false flag attacks etc.
As these conspiracies grew the section of the population that tended to believe them were people on the right and brought the likes of Alex Jones to prominence.
when the term then aligned with one side of the political world they didn't like it so starting throwing it at people who opposed their ideals.

Why do people even want a news channel that's right wing or left wing or "offers a different viewpoint"?
The news is meant to be unbiased and factual, and I'm sick of this we must hear both sides boll@cks on issues that should be presented factually.

Yes, but there are also documentaries and discussion shows which will reveal a channel's political leaning.

So they're called GB News but want to focus on giving opinions more than actual news.....riiiight.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That's what people want news to be. People don't want facts anymore, they want validation of their opinions. If a fact contradicts that, then it is biased.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Both sides do this dance.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
not really even the BBC had a segment discussing WTO rules and Terms.
on one side they had the former head of the organisation on the other they had some a brexit supporter.
One explained the rules of the organisation and how it would work for the UK and one said no that's not what those rules mean.
who should we believe?
and the presenter had to sit there unable to challenge as the BBC has to remain impartial.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I remember watching it.
It was Pascal Lamy (former WTO Director General) discussing trade law with Iain Duncan Smith

The same Iain Duncan Smith who just 6 months ago denied there was a need to discuss a deal that he in the last few weeks now wants to tear up.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The very same
The deal he voted for, voted against allowing any parliamentary scrutiny, and now is unhappy with it.
Maybe IDS might have been better served listening to Lamy (whose entire professional career has been focused on trade facilitation) rather than trying to mansplain the issues.

The problem in this country is that the gap between right and left is now so wide—it's effectively two different ideologies and belief systems inside one state. Yet people still try to debate the other side as if there's a common goal—which is no longer the case.

Who is going to read anything well balanced? Something that provokes outrage gets the most hits, shares and comments. Search the concept of outrage porrn or outrage media. Both sides are just products of this but the individuals just lack the intelligence to recognise it so it just gets perpetuated. Because it makes money. No offence to anyone caught up in either side of the nonsense. Apart from you not being very intelligent.
