But for some I believe there’s a psychological aspect to it, be that due to external influence or just being deeply unhappy with the danger being they latch on to this change as a solution to their problems, to become a different person. Then further down the line they realise this wasn’t the issue and then they’re really fecked.

I just hope the right mechanisms are in place to minimise this risk. One thing he isn’t wrong about though is the unscrupulous nature of the pharmaceutical industry. We’ve seen it with plastic surgery and other ‘vanity’ treatments, plenty of horror stories.

I don't think anyone has any real issue with people calling themselves whatever they want. I think people get irritated when such irrelevant things such as this come up though just to suit the 0.0000001% of the population that get offended by everything.

Bigger crime here is the gallon or so of water that was wasted for coffee/tea along with the air conditioning unit, lights etc etc during the meeting to discuss something so pointless taking place.

But, using the example in the OP, it's utterly trivial to 'ladies' or 'gentlemen' (ffs, who calls themselves a gentleman?) causes no offence to call them guests and is more inclusive to a minority which may get offended. This was my point earlier - all those celebs and influencers making such a big deal of their chosen gender is wrong when some of them are likely doing it only to stay relevant and on the front pages but kids grow up more confused than ever and as always teaching will be way behind because some parents will be at the gates with placards and causing even more distress to the tiny minority for whom it would be a deal otherwise.

Yeah, kids have got it so tough these days, their heads must be utterly scrambled.

Those influencers can be proper caants. There was an Australian woman who lied that she had cancer and then declared she’d cured herself through healthy eating and then made a mint off book sales on the back of it. Other genuine cancer sufferers got sucked in by her and actually stopped there own treatments. Disgusting.

It is one dangerous end of the spectrum that starts with fashion then jewellery, then tats and piercings then botox and boob jobs, plastic surgery, drugs whatever. A lot of stuff dangerous and not easily irreversible.

What you're describing are intersex conditions and are physiological rather than psychological. They're almost always caused by some sort of genetic defect in the XY chromosomes, such as having an extra X or Y. Caster Semenya is probably the most famous one - technically male and has XY chromosomes and internal testes instead of ovaries and no external genitals.
Most Western countries have it figured out now, but many African nations still go by ding dong = boy, no ding dong = girl.
Hence the three women's 800 metres medalists at the Rio Olympics all being African... and XY male intersex.

And from what I've seen online intersex people tend to hate getting thrown in with transgender folk as they have very different wants and needs. They tend to just want to be left alone and get on with their lives and not to be treated as broken or needing fixed. I think that's fair enough - unless there's pressing medical need then first do no harm.
