As to the first paragraph, isn't that genderfluid?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think there is some element of crossover, but not an expert. Not all non-binary people choose to identify as one or the other sometimes. Sometimes it's just being neither, othertimes its not. Comes down to how an individual feels, I would imagine.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Right, so what is the other? This shouldn't be this hard. There is a massive list of the multiple gender differences on this thread, but no identifier for the what neither is.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Its neither. Hard to explain the existence of a middle ground really. Especially when, as evidenced above, people won't accept that this exists. I would imagine that the use of the phrase non-binary is to make clear that things like gender do not have to be one or the other, as is true for almost everything. There is middle ground, and that is where people identify themselves.

Society has established parameters where people have to be one thing or the other (social constructs yada, yada). True for things away from gender and sexuality, such as politics, nationality, north/south etc etc. These are ultimately pretty meaningless.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You sure it's middle and not another?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think it will largely depend on the individual and how they feel. Just like with most things.

Actually, I don't think society has established parameters where people have to be one or the other. The gender list tries to do that.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We still only have ladies and gents toilets as a rule... Don't ever recall seeing a non-binary toilet anyway

And further afield into politics, most people will have things they agree and disagree with on both the left and right.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
WTF has politics got to do with gender

Just saying what I think. The world is inherently polarised on almost any topic, with people on either side firmly entrenched and unwilling to really consider and budge. JA actually has a really interesting, yet decidedly tiresome, microcosm of that, with people like Sizzle (sp), Colemanballs, Reverend etc etc always at each other's throats.

I suppose you could say that modern society has sought to define and ascribe everyone into particular strata based on sexuality and whatnot, but I would say more openness to express is broadly a good thing. These are not new phenomena in regards to individuals, its just fairly new that people feel more comfortable expressing themselves.

As rightly been suggested gender stereotypes are on a sliding scale with infinite possibilities, but non binary sounds like it wants off the scale completely.

Exactly as I said - attention-seeking

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Possibly. But with gender specifically, it wasn't modern society that demanded it, it was the individuals themselves. And it's one thing to want to express yourself and another to drag others along with your self expression.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Sometimes it takes individuals to demand change for positive change to happen. Similar could have been said (and was) about individuals like MLK JR demanding civil right equality. That is history that we now look back on as being largely positive. Had we not changed societally then we probably wouldn't. Will be interesting to see if society changes now, and whether in 50 years we will look back on now as similar. Who knows with that though.

Though I would say that modern society is now demanding more gender/sexuality equality. That isn't to say that all people agree on it, though. Sometimes it probably goes too far. This is true of almost everything.

So people on here are supporting non binary people even though they don't know what they are. πŸ˜‚

How many of you reflect on you man/woman identity? Do you consciously wake up and think, I'm a man, or woman.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
In the same way I would hope people would support me, even if they don't know what it's like to be me. In what way is supporting someone meant to be a bad thing? Do we have different definitions of what supporting means?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Ok, how far will you go to accommodate?

Watch the vid and tell me if you would stop at any point.

https://youtu.be/xfO1veFs6Ho

Or do you accept all of it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not going to click links to Youtube, for a variety of reasons.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Ok, so you would support someone who wanted to kill themselves? I guess not. Do you support the egg or the broccoli? The point being is, of course supporting people is important, but there comes a point where it is enabling rather than supporting.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes, enabling them to live as their authentic selves.

Marvellous

Your last point is very valid. Even the trans community are at each others throat, so those of us that are more simpler to define are always going to be on the back foot - how can anyone learn when the rules aren't clear?

Some do seem to want to find offence and cause disruption (Jessica Yaniv) where as others (Blair White, Sarah tuned) don't.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
There aren’t any rules, don’t worry you’re not expected to know or remember everybody’s preferred pro nouns, but it’s nice to make the effort.

It's not that simple, as we've seen with the Olympic weightlifter. Again we are back to self expression Vs others detriment to self expression.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What detriment?

Other weightlifters that didn't have the advantage of going through male puberty. Unless you don't think that is an advantage?

So trans athletes shouldn’t be able to compete?

Or use the bathroom?

Or exist?

You can't have babies Stan..you haven't got a womb

We should fight for stand right to have babies...it's symbolic of his fight against oppression

Symbolic of his fight against reality more like
