What a player Jonny Bairstow has suddenly decided to become.

Bairstow has always been a bit in Buttler's shadow, & hasn't shown enough maturity at times when in bat....and has also been seen as an ODI player....you get older, you learn

If we continue and play sensibly this should be fairly easy, worry though if Stokes gets in and decides to smash everything, could go downhill fast

Stokes needs to 'read the room' & do what's needed

I'd argue Bairstow actually did always have this talent, but difference is when it was finally all clicking in 2016/17, he the then completely changed his technique to suit white ball.

It worked for him because he became a white ball beast, but it's only recently he's actually bothered to tweak it again to get better in Tests.

Of course he's always had the talent. You don't suddenly just become talented at 32 years old. It's just that blaming the management in his case is barely telling half the story.

I think its all about mind set. when Bairstow is confident he hits the ball.. when hes back on the crease he gets bowled a lot.
Hopefully the next 2/3 years he can get his average above 40 and that will be an excellent test career.

Oh definitely.

He spent too many years moaning about not having the gloves and refusing to change his technique despite being bowled every other game.

He always should have averaged around 40 and it's largely his own fault he doesn't.

Can we just leave this Bairstow in the test side and let Salt take his place in ODIs and T20? Just looks to be batting with such maturity now. If we can get the Ben Stokes of the last few years as well then what a middle order we'll have.

That's the crazy thing isn't it. Stokes didn't have to change anything about his batting (averaged over 50 across 2019 and 2020), because he was already playing like Bairstow is now (and managing it in a team that was performing atrociously on the whole too).

Instead he decided to change to playing baseball instead, and he looks like a clown while the team suffers for it.

The pitches in England have changed a lot last few years. In the past the day 4-5 pitch would have loads of rough and cracks which made it almost impossible to chase 200 because of the turn and low bounce. Probably not going to get this abroad.

That's a very fair point. All very well going big on Bazball but it could still fall flat on its @rse overseas

It was reversing. Its crazy that they swapped it.

They'll be asking for another ball change now...

Would say this Bumrah spell is our last obstacle. The bloke is top class.
