Some people don't get that negative breeds negativity. Believing media hype and their anti-spurs agenda should not affect us. Only the weak should let this happen. The same mentality we criticise winks and other players for having on the pitch. Some fans exhibit this in times of adversity then they wonder why we fall at the final hurdle.

I'm all for constructive criticism for out club but it's very clear that media have an agenda and we shouldn't allow them to push it.

I don`t take a lot of notice of the negative media nonsense although I have to say it is perpetuated by a lot of our own supporters. That is why I will always give my full support to the club. Sure there may be a few downers, but in general Spurs fans don`t have a great deal to keep moaning about. Still one of the elite clubs in the country, and I would not want to support anybody else.

dont like the constant media narrative and 'its against us' narrative, but these are all positives that just dont sell as many stories

I agree completely

Son singing a new long term contract is just more positive news. I really do have a good feeling about this season

The club understand it’s been a poor two years.

I believe we will keep Kane and make some very astute signings. If we don’t, I do trust Paratici to spend the money wisely with top talent. He really is a game changer

We have some exceptional talent already! Keep Kane, build a solid defence, add some quality and we’re not far off.

Don’t listen to the sun and dirty rumours

The self pity on this thread

posted on 23/7/21

Football goes in cycles.

At the end of the 2013/14 season we looked all over the place. No settled team, direction, identity. In September 2016 we were playing in the Champions League, and in the middle of two sustained, very real title challenges, and really looking to be on the up.

In 2015/16 Liverpool finished 8th and looked in quite a mess, having players like Kolo Toure, Moreno, Allen and Benteke. Go and have a look at their squad at the end of that season, you'll be shocked to see how bad it was.

In 2019, they won the Champions League, and finished 2nd in the League on 97 points. In 2020, they won the League at an absolute canter.

Things never have to be as bad as they seem. A little sound investment goes a long way, given time.

Echoes of your laughter should be on your own clubs feed. No self pity, if you can comprehend it's actually the opposite.

Possibly secured new training kit sponsor
Possibly secured stadium naming rights
Secured one of the non-football events at our stadium

.... well done?

Well a club is everything to do with a club so yes. It's the same reason people mourn when off field tragedies happen. Football isn't just burgers and match day programmes and bragging about buying 3 points every week.

It's more the hate from our own fans that bothers me.

Media write what they want and we know 81.734% of it is BS!

What astounds me is some fans sense of entitlement feeding unrealistic expectations, which we inevitably fall short of, leading to criticism of the owners.

There are a massive number of myths surrounding how we are run which are accepted as a gospel truth and inform the criticism.

In the football food chain we are a top 6 side. That is where peoples (fans & media) expectations of Spurs should begin. To exceed this level we need to get a lot more things right than wrong. At times we have, and that has raised expectations, but we have also made many mistakes. But people should not lose sight of the fact we have averaged about 4th place over 12 years and made it to a UCL final which is remarkable progress and represents Spurs punching way over their weight. Trophies are "the elephant in the room" but the lack of these goes deeper than how we are run.

Some promising signs with the new DoF, SOn signing on, no stadium or pandemic to distract us. I hope Nuno is a real success and feel that we are very well placed to really progress and start punching above our weight again.

Brilliant comment.

I suppose the only thing I'd add is, punching above your weight isn't exactly sustainable, as we've seen with the inevitable slide after doing so. With clubs like Liverpool, Chelsea and Man Utd, you always feel like they will come back strong, even after one or two bad seasons. With us, maybe it's just the pessimist in me, but I can't be so sure.

How do we go from punching above our weight, to our weight being the same as the best?

I recently commented that I wasn’t looking forward to this season and my enthusiasm was at an all time low for the club

However today reading Son has signed a new deal and the links to players we need in problem positions (Gil, Romero, other centre backs and the goal keeper coming in) has made me a bit more optimistic that we have a DOF who has contacts and knows what he is doing

Even if/when Kane leaves it’s not going to dampen down my spirits yet (I’ve already accepted he will go and I don’t blame him)

I’m not happy he wants out but that’s the way it is and we will move on as we have with our other stars sold

I think we all need to start being a bit more positive until things go by wrong under the new management , hopefully everything goes great

But maybe save the doom and gloom if we are struggling after nuno and the new DOF have had some time in their jobs (I include myself in that!)

If we're such a well run club then maybe Daniel Levy shouldn't be getting so much hate on these boards?

Just a thought.

Agree, the hate from our own fans is rather disturbing. And I cannot understand the constant moaning 254/7. Yes a bit of criticism is fine, but just moaning for the sake of it is tiresome and extremely boring.

It was just a poor defence that let us down last year, and it looks like the DoF is fixing that issue.

I have full confidence in this DoF, to get better players in and shift the dead wood.

It might take 2 summers to get rid of all the deadwood but it’ll happen, this DoF looks the business.

You carry on being happy about "possibly" having this and that.
