We're probably in the worst position of any PL side in terms of players returning to pre-season and have some tricky games to navigate early on.
Leeds, Southampton (A) and Wolves with a new manager will not be easy.
Lost to Palace last season purely down to fitness. Spurs game was the same.
Leeds will do you game 1, so a fast start after that
Well we won't be getting one.
With the lack of pre season our first team has had, Leeds are the absolute last team we want to be opening against. I hate to say it but i wouldn't be surprised at all if they beat us quite comfortably.
It's probably going to be a similar start to last season which is shīt luck.

Reckon a full OT may just get the extra 10% out of the side vs Leeds, particularly for the start of the game. Fitness will undoubtedly show though as the game goes on.
Against Palace last year we looked like a Sunday League side in terms of fitness, second to absolutely everything.
The only upside is that our players played so much last year, and they've only really had 2/3 weeks off, not months, so shouldn't need quite as long of a pre-season as usual.
Leeds will come out and play though so if we do our job at the back we'll get chances IMO.
In any case it's Leeds, first game of the season, with a crowd. I'm certain that'll have an influence too.
We do have good opening fixtures though, or at least fixtures that if we were at full strength you'd expect us to be able to rack up some points, and we fckin need to in August and September, because once that run finishes from October 1st we have;
Everton
Leicester
Liverpool
Spurs
City
Watford
Chelsea
Arsenal
Along with CL games mixed in.

I’d be highly surprised if that’s been decided yet.
Anyone seen Beeky in training (and the last 15 minutes of the Friendly), he's certainly been working hard on his physique.

Maybe it's just the angle, but I did read he'd spent a bit of time pre-season at some specialist training facility in Amsterdam, and he's also been extremely focussed and determined to get into Oles plans this year, and is on specific training for building lean muscle now to better handle the midfield in the PL.
we aill almost certainly have a similar start to this new season as we did last year.
But we wont be the only ones.

That they were but they may well fancy their chances at OT so that could suit us. Even though I want us to perform better this season than last I'd take a scrappy 1-0 win in this one to get us up and running.

The Leeds game concerns me, not an ideal team to play when you're still building match fitness etc. I wouldn't be surprised if we draw or even lose that game.
Hopefully we get to give a good amount of minutes against Everton to anybody in the plan for the Leeds game.

The team could just play two behind closed door friendlies among themselves to get sharpness in the legs. Still far from ideal but better than nothing. Games could even be played at OT just to replicate match day
