I think the bits are there to be a really good side but we need the 'glue' to bond it together I think.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
would you settle for turning jones into glue?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
After all the stick he's got then it would be funny if he turned that around on us.
To be fair though I do feel sorry for him. He doesn't want to be injured all the time.

"last season i think its pretty safe to say that Luke Shaw probably exceeded everyones expectations"
Only if you are, ill-advisedly, using the footballing-illiterati that regularly frequent these kind of forums as some kind of metric.
Shaw's been a proper epl top-level right back since even before he arrived.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I bet you thought someone would pick up on that before now?

Another thought I've had, which may get shot down here, is that if we do sign a midfielder I could still see a place for McT in the team (if he's not in midfield) as a RB on occasion.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
as someone who has watched smalling trundle his way down the right wing, this isn't such a terrible idea.
scotland seem to have decided his role will be mainly in defence, we might do the same at some point.
Diafol, yeah I agree with that. Especially about midfield.
I think our formation was a massive part of why he didn’t do well which may or may not change. In the long term it may do.
The 4231 doesn’t work with Donny but a 433 (4123) might well do.
---------------------------------------------
It's the way we play and the style he's used to which hindered him more than anything.
VdB often played in a 4-2-3-1 at Ajax playing off the striker and it was his best role.
Hopefully Ole will be as inspirational as this with our new signings and make them feel really special - https://twitter.com/sistoney67/status/1423625132950577156
Pep "FFS we've already bought Grealish now, we thought Messi was staying at Barca. Villa have already spent our money so we can't send him back. Messi isn't in our plans anymore. FFS!"
It’s all set up for Messi to join United
Be a good rotation option behind the striker for Bruno. Might get in the way of Lingards development though.
Hopefully he does for Pereira what Telles did for Shaw
Sell Martial and sign Messi. Sounds good to me.
Away from my article earlier, from purely a fans perspective it would be the most exciting thing ever to happen if I woke up tomorrow and Messi had signed.

It's actually something that I think is possible you know. I'm certain the numbers would add up when you take into consideration marketing/promotion etc and he'd also have a positive impact on our play. I'd take him for free on a three year deal even if it meant him leaving to return to Barca for free in two years if he wanted to return. Perhaps that would curry us some favour with Barca too for any other players we could buy.
Basically he'd be on loan with us. I wouldn't advocate this for any normal player but for arguably the best ever a club as big as United have to be considering it surely?

Culer would jiiizz himself to death as it would be like 2 becoming 1. So a great thing for us all.
I’m reading on Twitter that we’re selling Amad to Barca to pay for the Messi wages.

It's at that exact time JA606 would collapse in on itself with nothing remaining except Charlie Austin's near world class ability.

Messi’s changed the game. Craig Bushmouse had to cancel his holiday to get on this
BREAKING; Messi to join United on three year contract. Break clause states he can return to Barca for free after two years if both parties which to exercise that clause.
Amad to join Barca on two year loan to continue his development.
Sorry to burst everyone's bubble, but my best mate's cousin knows a guy who knows an immediate member of Messi's family who says he's going to snub United should they approach him.

Wasn't Jones always meant to develop into a midfielder for us?
I'm sure when he was signed that was what was being said. A Bryan Robson of sorts?
As for OP my biggest concern going into the season is actually Bruno. I think with signings we made and style change (if reports are to be believed) I can see his figures being not what they were last season.
Jinja. I think we may see more Bruno goals from outside the box. In theory he'll have more threats to pass to ahead so that could open up space for him to have a go from distance.
