I have a Spanish friend (called Fernando - he lived in the UK for a while and was haunted by the Abba song wherever he went) who grew up in and around Barcelona. His parents were part of the wave of 'internal migration' that came from Andalusia in the 60s, and growing up in a Castilian family he always felt quite sensitive to uglier undercurrents of Catalan nationalism (not least an element of the familiar hostility of wealthier locals to poorer immigrants). As such, he made a point of supporting Real Madrid and always hated Barcelona FC and its pious 'more than a club' shtick, which is energised not just by being part of the community, but being part of a community that sees itself as different from and oppressed by Spain. Seeing things through this lens, I've long felt a bit queasy about Barcelona. However, I've always hated Real Madrid more.
(Reading that back, I feel like I've over-shared.)

Based on what you've said my dislike of Barca seems even more illogical really but I just can't get over how everyone was a Barca fan in 2009 and 2011 and used those defeats as a stick to beat us with. Football isn't logical though I suppose!
By the way RR you haven't over-shared. You've just chosen this time, here today, to share. We're all here for you.

It’s what unites all of us, Irish.
The uglier parts of Catalan nationalism?
As opposed to the warm and friendly nature of Francoism?
Gimme a break...
Not opposed to anything.
Because Francoism exists doesn't make Catalan nationalism good.
Good for whom?
They think it's good for them, and they have a very good financial/fiscal point.
A point the Catalonian population agreed with in the referendum.
The same referendum the Francoists in Madrid belatedly declared "unconstitutional."
It's not like they even tried to bomb their way to independence like the Basque did, and still do.
Not heard anyone get hot under the collar about them.
Plenty got hot under the collar about them. I'm in the French Basque area now, so fingers crossed for no bombs
