I’m worth more than Barca

Can't really defend them but it would be a disaster for the game if both collapse for a decade.

Spurs have a bigger debt than Barcelona.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Yes but are debt is due to a stadium that brings in serious revenue. The annual payments are around £40m which we make from the NFL, Boxing, Rugby and concerts alone.

Barca’s debt is wages, you can’t really refinance those over 20 odd years for a reasonable interest rate.

Do keep up

It would be brilliant for the game, they are 2 of the most plastic clubs going and have spent a decade paying crazy amounts. The bottom line is they thought they were too big to fail - well let’s see

Hope same happens to city....

Irresponsible mismanagement of a club nobody should have sympathy for really. I didn't with Leeds and I would not with Barcelona or Real Madrid if they ended up with a similar fate either.

They can argue they don't have a choice with the stadium as used in the OP, but players' wages, transfer fees etc they have a choice with and what to offer as well and that's ultimately one of the biggest factors at the moment for both clubs.

Their salary takes 103% of what they generate. FFS, how is this allowed to happen ? Where is FFP ?

This is after Messi left.

So they pay out 103% of what they generate on wages, how do they cover all other costs ?

If this were any other club they would have the book thrown at them, as they would be banged to rights.

City are no different except the oil club funnel money in when needed under very auspicious circumstances.

It's all BS...but ffp does nothing

look barca are crucial to that league.

we all know it.

The only way is to do quasi administration like when LFC were sold off by a group to FSG.

they have dropped messi which has in theory negated the wage to turnover issue. Its was as i understand it 103% before he left

They have 3 or 4 kids like fati and pedri that clubs would like up to take but all that cash will go to coutinho and greizmann.

the wages paid and trasfers done as disgraceful and they deserve it all but I'd be quite happy both clubs were forced into firesale of real assets so we can pick up pedri. lol.

How are Real Madrid going the same way? They actually made a profit this year, and their debts aren’t comparable to Barca’s, especially given a large amount of it is due to the renovation of the Bernabeu.

Yeah because that is what football needs isn't it, already a closed shop and then remove two clubs that were actually relevant and with massive global support.

And who knows, it could open a window for one of the lesser but better ran clubs. Look at how far Atleti have come since relegation, and the progress Sevilla are making.

Those clubs can fill a void but they will never ever replace two of the biggest clubs in world football ffs

The Spanish Government will probably bale RM out, Barca are in deepshit though.

Not at all. The airline who sponsor the club value their advertising by City at a higher rate than other clubs because they really like the colour blue.
Planes fly in blue sky and city play in sky blue. You have to pay a premium for that

Zero sympathy at all, if they're in that much trouble with a wage bill higher than turnover why did they sign Aguero and Depay on high wages. And then ask Pique and 3 other players to take a wage cut, they should all refuse and ask how they're able to hand out big contracts to new players.

They must have thought La Liga would relax the rules on salaries, and that they’d be able to move on some of their silly earners. I don’t think Laporta understood the gravity of the situation.

posted on 16/8/21

They’re too big to fail like the banks, their own government will bail them out IMO. But no sympathies at all. Ran by a bunch of clowns and any institution with that much debt cannot survive on its own.

Funny thing is, with Neymar’s sale they had all the money to make the right decisions to buy players. Yet they somehow screwed it up big time. Goes to show with money, you need intelligence

posted on 16/8/21

They won't fail completely but hopefully it will take away their God given right to entice the World's best players by offering unsustainable wages which could only be good for the PL.

posted on 16/8/21

Will be interesting to see how Laporta approaches things. They obviously need to sort their finances out, but he’ll need, and want, to have a competitive team if he’s going to maintain his presidency.

Does show the pitfalls of the fans being so influential in the way a club is run. It’s obviously contributed to their success, but it’s clearly contributed to terrible financial situations they’ve found themselves in over the last 20 years.
