I can't say I share your confidence, but I hope you're right. We need this signing to work. Likewise with Ben White.

We are still 1 midfielder short, in my opinion, but there's no chance we'll get another one now.

Much rests on Lokonga, to be honest. How good is he already, and how much can we rely on him? If Partey wasn't injury prone, we wouldn't be short on numbers, by any stretch. The two holes, beyond GK, are RB and ST, and we have a lot of unsuitable players in both roles who we probably can't shift out. I'd give one of my toes to go back in time and sit AMN down with videos of Philippe Lahm so I could tell him to ST FU and become that midfielder from RB.

if he was so good, why are RM willing to let him permanently go for an average price, despite the fact their main playmaker Toni Kroos is injured? Also the fact RM are willing to hold on to Ceballos instead of Odegaard is rather quite telling

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Is this the same Real Madrid that sold Robben, Schneijder, Seedorf, Makelele, Di Maria and Özil?
There are fewer clubs in for Ceballos.

yes they sold Ozil to us, and that worked out well
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The point isn't that they sold him to us but that they sold him... ie if they can do that with him and other top players in their prime, what makes Odegaard indispensable?

Ancelloti was always going to sell him after seeing him in action last season. This is why Arsenal were so patient.

That doesn't mean Odegaard won't develop under a different manager at Arsenal. Maybe even under Arteta. And for £30m I think its a gamble worth taking.

But please don't compare him to Bergkamp or Cesc. You are just setting yourself up for disappointment.

Still not sure how I feel about this one. Happy that we are bringing in a number 10 as that was certainly a position in which we needed more numbers. Can't help but feel a bit underwhelmed about his performances last season though. More often than not felt that he flattered to deceive and, from a sheer numbers standpoint, he is nowhere near the top number 10's in the league. Clearly there is a classy player in there, his performance against West Ham showed what he can do. Hopefully being a bit more adjusted to the league and feeling a more settled we will see that player more often that not.

It's a no-brainer. He's very young and clearly talented and knows how the club and prem works and at 30m is cheap at today's rates.

Who else at that level would come to a club in the doldrums who has just lost at Brentford?

Good signing. Still need a RB and reserve GK and possibly a new CF but it's a start.

We are talking about a player Guardiola thought he could make the best in the world. His ceiling is seriously high.

That's my question as well. RM are rebuilding and if he was that brilliant they wd have told us to stuff off. I can understand that previously the boy wasn't happy the way he was treated by Zidane. But they have a new mngr now who wd want to give him a chance. He has the passion and desire to play for us, which is a huge plus. I hope he develops into the player we desperately need.

I think the point j99 is making is that, if he ever were to reach that level (which, lets be honest, is extremely unlikely), then that would be astonishing for us and would be an unbelievable triumph of a transfer.

But you shouldn't expect him to be as good as that because you'll be disappointed if your expectations are through the roof and he doesn't match them.

That's reasonable, Samir. I don't think I'm prone to needlessly hyping transfers. I was one of the only people who, at the time, was saying Pepe was a bad buy. I just genuinely believe in this one.

Real Madrid are clueless and Martin Odegaard doesn’t feel loved there so glad to have him back and I bet if he were from a PL club, he would cost £70m plus.

Not seen a single useful source suggesting it, only that Lyon want to sell him. He was an alternative to Odegaard, but beyond that can't see it.

If we had just announced the double signing of Ronaldo and Messi this board would full of people saying they were no good. Odegard is not even signed yet but these trolls have already decided they hate him and will slate him for the next 10 years. P A T H E T I C .

Couldn't agree more.

At €40m (if that’s right) it’s a very good buy, Ødegaard is young with massive potential, one or two of his performances for us last season were extraordinary.

Why are Arsenal fans so obsessed with Aour? I bet about 2% have seen him play. Lyon want rid of him and no other teams are in for him, that should set some alarm bells. Seems it’s mainly because he has a fancy name and he’d be a new shinny player

Aour might be an excellent player, but the way lots of fans totally write off odegaard in favour of a player they’ve probably never seen play past a Twitter comp is a bit pathetic
