The stadium will become a cash cow over the next decade or so. It will certainly elevate Spurs up the financial rung, and not a penny of it will be given to them by any oil state.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
so your owner will get richer and not put anything back into trying to actually win something. you'll also get a first hand view of the slowest most boring game on earth, nfl hypeball.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No, it has always been the business plan that increased revenue generated by the stadium is to be invested into the team to increase our opportunities to play in the CL, which in turn generates more income as we found out when we announced record profits in 2019. Just because Anfield is a crumbling dump there’s no need to get tetchy.

Sad as it is..Levy should be using this to get us a stadium sponsor and invest more money into the squad. They really having a mare on the naming rights.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think the sponsorship situation is a lot more complex than most people understand. And once you are in its long term. I think Levy is waiting for the right time and right partner to sign up. If you think about the possible NFL tie in then it really is very important to get the right name as the rights will be broadcast globally, beyond just football, and this exposure is worth a lot more. If we gained an NFL franchise then the sums of money would be off the chart compared to just PL sponsorships. So its the right deal at the right time, not just any deal.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
If so complex why have other teams done without the same delay. I think it's purely down to greed nothing else. We have know of the NFL and the stadium for over 5 years now.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I am not sure you can call trying to maximise Spurs' revenues as greed, this is business.
We do not know what offers have been on the table (if any) and whether its worth committing long term when something much better could be achieved in time.
If we did have greater NFL or a franchise happening then the sponsorship needs to be aligned. The wrong long term sponsor could hamper that.
No other club has had the same sort of tie-ups that Spurs have and are trying to develop.
We're going for the biggest pop stars, NFL, world title boxing matches, PL football.
With this in mind it is also the case that we have not been able to showcase the stadium fully yet. One lot of NFL, no gig, boxing cancelled. Its all happening this year but once you demonstrate the stadium will be more than 19 PL home games a season, then no doubt bigger and better deals will be available If we can add UCL exposure to that then our stadium (& its sponsor) will be beamed all over the world on a regular basis.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Perhaps but the longer it remains like this the less value. You seldom see a new hotel built..but referred to as the Devonshire Inn then suddenly expect 3 years later after 3 years of use for it to have the same shiny appeal. The naming rights value would have to reduce to attract brands who might have other new stadia opportunities.

We are also the greenest football club in Britain with our use of sustainable energies and materials etc across our operations, which is why we were chosen to host the zero carbon game. Personally I don’t give a fack about the environment, but if you’re a Greta Thunberg worshipping, virtue signaling, he/him woke pansy type then that might be sometime worth taking pride in.

I consider myself a liberal but there's so much truth to your statement. Most civilians hellbent on being more green are just virtue-signalling. It's about image, not nature. I'm not a denier of global warming. Far from it. I just think that whilst we're speeding up the process, it is natural for the earth to 'reset'. It's happened before and it'll happen again. Disagree mate.
The value is not in how new it is per (it is still the best PL stadium out there) its in the exposure it will gain forthe sponsors.
A sponsor will want to be be aligned with a successful team, big events, with global appeal and audience and the more the better.
For sure as other new stadiums come on stream ourswill diminish but that aint really happening right now.
Bottom line is that it is very difficult to get a sponsor name. Very few manage it, often linked with ownership and big sums of money which makes the market very very small.

Yup.
When I said I don’t give a fack about the environment I was being facetious. I do give a fack enough enough to recycle and not dump an old fridge feeezer in my local stream, and I think it’s great that Spurs are acting sustainably. But the reality is I don’t care about it that much, or I wouldn’t drive my diesel car, fly on planes regularly or eat cattle so I’d rather be honest than be a hypocrite.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Exactly. It's the hypocrisy. The point is valid and the reasons for doing the right thing are unquestionable but it's the preachy ones with the 4x4s I can't stand.

How do you feel about those that suffered at the hands of the plague about 500 years ago? That wiped out half of Europe. They're just statistics in history. I'd be sceptical if anyone felt the pain of their loss now. It's impossible to. The same applies here. Any huge event will likely be many centuries or millennia away. They're not our sons, daughters, grandsons or granddaughters. Sure, we all have a duty to do the right thing and basically stop being diks and I fully support that. I have an issue with those that weaponise global warming to elevate themselves to appear more morally upstanding... despite the gas-guzzling motor in their driveway and 5 trips abroad a year.
Any huge event will likely be many centuries or millennia away.
---
What are you referring to? Like, life ending stuff? Cos we're already seeing regular 'huge events' in terms of extreme weather. The world doesn't have to change much for large swathes of it to become uninhabitable.
Not sure what you're talking about when it comes to weaponizing the debate there. Hypocrisy is annoying for sure, but I feel like you're attacking the people rather than dealing with the reality as a way of deluding yourself because it's uncomfortable.
Anyway. I'm not worried long term. Once a serious amount of money and human effort is directed at it we can reverse the process. But short to medium term things could get pretty bad. Yes, in our lifetimes.

I think 'people' was the wrong word. The biggest culprits are corporations and large enterprise companies that use it as nothing more than a marketing tool to win more business, business that will no doubt require more cars, more planes and generally more fuel to use up. we all have to tackle it but I'd prefer a little more transparency and honesty from everyone.
Ironically, I think you should worry long term. The events we're witnessing at the moment are, as you've mentioned, a product of global warming but to think that a large amount of money is going to reverse things, I think is crazy. We can slow it down, sure, but the earth is due another reset, naturally. We're human. We have an inherent arrogance that means we'll tackle this too late and no sum of money will change that.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
A large amount of money is required to educate and reskill people in the required trades (eg renewable energy, carbon capture) and accelerate the rate of change. And it's not crazy to think we could reverse global warming. We have most of what we need to do it already, it's just prohibitively expensive. Electric cars were seen as ridiculous fantasy that would never be widespread. Space travel was the same.. there's so many examples of incredible human achievements. But the motivation has to be there, it won't happen just because we want it to.
I do agree on your point about industry leading the way. And honestly, I'd expand on that by saying I don't feel guilty for eating meat. Energy production and commercial transport like container ships pollute way more than a city full of cars. If everyone voted for the Green party the politicians would start making those issues a priority.
I mean, stuff feeling guilty about your choices. That's rubbish. We should remove the possibility for people to choose a polluting life. Why are non biodegradable plastic bags even an option? Why can I buy fruit that's travelled thousands of miles? It's ridiculous. I shouldn't have to feel bad about buying a banana. Just the same as I shouldn't have to donate money to hospitals or whatever.
Ok a bit of a rant there. But I hope that makes sense

Defo agree on virtually all of that. I just think whatever we predict will be enough to reverse this cataclysmic cycle, and it is a cycle, multiply it by 100 and you’ll get nearer the mark. That’s not just financial. It will take a seismic effort from everyone on the planet to achieve and I don’t think humans are ever that collectively unselfish. We’ll see.... or we probably won’t as we’ll only be around for the simmer. The boil won’t happen to anyone that currently exists on the planet, which is part of the problem. Who in all honesty makes a commitment of this scale when they know it won’t happen directly to them. This quote sums up why it’s going to be so difficult...
“A society grows great when old men plant trees in whose shade they know they shall never sit.”
fridge
I totally agree with your reasoning. We're a selfish bunch, that quote is spot on and kind of scary.
All I think we're at odds over now is the 'cycle' part. Now, I'm no climate scientist, but as far as I'm aware the problem is that we've vastly accelerated the natural processes of the Earth. Previous ice ages and such took thousands of years.. or some kind of meteor impact. Of course scrubbing all the CO2 out of the atmosphere won't happen overnight but it's certainly doable.
And yes, that'll need the pubic buy-in leading to political will, and huge amounts of investment. Just like we've seen with renewables. Maybe I'm deluded but (although it might be a drag) I'm fully convinced we can sort it
I wonder what the future holds, because while the young are being educated about this issue now so it becomes hard wired in as they grown up, I see society as becoming ever more self obsessed and selfish and the young are leading this. Obviously a sweeping generalisation but to me the next generation seem more vain and materialistic than ever.

I just find it strange how obsessed people are with the longevity of the human race. Who cares? Species evolve. Different ones dominate. What makes us so special.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't know about you, but I quite like some people.
Also your point about speeding it up.. global warming could severely affect our lives, let alone our kids etc. Sh!t be crazy. I'm definitely concerned about it, but also think we'll fix it before it ends humanity or anything daft
