If football management and tactics were as simple as stated in the OP then we would all be doing it. Get the videos out of all the teams who score the most goals, then get the videos out of the teams who concede the least goals, put it all together and you'll win every game.
So, who thinks we can learn from TV how to be better defensively. It seems such a simple thing to suggest, but could make us better.

Third and second is not to be sneezed at. And they weren't flukes. Plus a final, albeit disappointing.
But I don't know but he seems to get things wrong in crunch matches.
Over thinking it, too timid, I don't know. But it needs to change.
Definitely not Ole out, but could be at the seasons end.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He won't be given time till season end. If we get knocked out of CL it'll be bye bye for him by December regardless of our league position.
Chelsea, Liverpool look far more improved than last season and City are City so they will be up there. He has to deliver a trophy at any cost regardless of league position (barring winning the league of course) else it's goodbye.
The cries for his head are already out in full force on twitter and reddit. It's hard to ignore such huge social media outrage.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
If we end up still being top of the league at Christmas, but happen to get knocked out - do you think he'll be sacked? I suspect not.
I also just don't think we'll get knocked out of the CL in the groups to be honest.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
If we get knocked out in CL group stages which is my worst fear (although reduced due to the draw between Atalanta and Villareal), he will have to go regardless of league position. I don't think we will be top of the league in December honestly since PL opposition have figured out how to counter our tactics.
City will mostly run with the league and Liverpool have their entire central defense intact this season and Chelsea are European Champions under a vastly superior manager as opposed to Lampard (who ran his course). Leicester have improved a lot too.
The only way Ole should be in the job if we are in the CL, FA, EFL cup by December and are top or a couple of points away from top. Everything else and he has to go and give way to a new manager the winter window to change the squad

Ouch.
I think it’s not just the defensive shape that’s an issue. It’s just a general shape of the team from defence, midfield to attack. There’s no passing cohesion, super slow build up, no pattern of play.
The defensive issues are rooted in the gK and have been since 2010.
He's weak = putting pressure on the back four to remain deep or risk punishment = reduces the links between back four and midfield/wingers = reduces the effectiveness of the links between midfield and the forwards.
Football is a simple game.
The defensive issues are rooted in the gK and have been since 2010.

Some muppets here will argue Ole coaches our defence, midfield and attack, even our passing is coached
Did we look like a well drilled, well coached team yesterday?! Did we feck!
Yes AWB's sending off didn't help but what also didn't help was Ole cowering with a back 5 and taking off our main goal threats. Against Young Boys ffs!
Ole's CL record is 7 defeats in 11 as manager of Utd! Time to get rid.

Well he can do some wrong in my eyes, hence the thread. Equally there are people who can only see the bad. If we have five or six good games it's either no post, or grudging praise, or it's down to the players. Then one poor game and it's Ole's fault and he should go. You know that's true.
You mention the 81 points the season before, but not the mess we were in, and position in the league when he arrived.
If you can never acknowledge the good, don't expect people to agree when you only talk about the bad

Ole doesn’t need to watch any other team. We do have a general game plan for defending, keeping the shape and pressing etc. Issue is we are poor at implementing them. It is down to lack of coaching and the intensity of training drills IMO.
Ole was using using generally similar tactics since he joined. He had more than enough time to train the team. Fact that we are still struggling with the basics like keeping the shape or playing out from back, shows he is either half assing the training drills or he is clueless on how to drill a team. Either way something has to change if United are to get to the next level.

What about his league record.
And that's not Ole's record, it's the teams. In other words it's a collective. Last night he got things wrong, but awb and Lingard let him down.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
His league record isn't great.
Took over a team who finished on 81 points season before, spent 450 mill, hasn't got close to that total since.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yet Ron Ole has Utd well coached in all areas according to some!
Damn Olesexuals!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The trophyless one can do no wrong in some people's eyes
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Why can't they differentiate between Ole the football legend versus Ole the average manager?!
Once they do that like the rest of us they will see the light!

Not the attack though, Plumpy, they don't get coached, it's all improvised isn't it?

Ole doesn’t need to watch any other team. We do have a general game plan for defending, keeping the shape and pressing etc. Issue is we are poor at implementing them. It is down to lack of coaching and the intensity of training drills IMO.
Ole was using using generally similar tactics since he joined. He had more than enough time to train the team. Fact that we are still struggling with the basics like keeping the shape or playing out from back, shows he is either half assing the training drills or he is clueless on how to drill a team. Either way something has to change if United are to get to the next level.

Our attack looks disjointed most of the time, which is why we exited the champions league group stages last year, and couldn't win the europa league against poor sides.
