We just haven't made the putts. Tee to green there hasn't been much in it. These things can turn quickly.

Putting is the most important part of the game though! Most of our players are good ball strikers but their putting is why they can't compete for majors.

We'll agree to disagree on this one as for me there is a big gulf in the quality of the two sets of players as overall golfers.

The world rankings and results in the big tournaments show that. I think if the US play to a good level we can't really compete unless we have some really inspired performances.

With all due respect to the likes of Poulter, Westwood etc they're not elite golfers, whereas the US team is full of them. No surprise that the best player in our team by a long way got 1.5 of our points.

Three quarters of the majors and the biggest tournaments are played in America though, which makes a difference. Don't get me wrong, the rankings mean something and there is no doubt this group of Americans are strong but I don't believe the gulf is huge. Home advantage and the csptains being able to set up the course is big.

World rankings tend to favour consistent players who play a lot of tournaments you can rise into the top 20 without really winning competitions.
